I see amps and instruments that people have had autographed. That and distressing is not something that appeals to me. I guess that I look at these things differently than most folks. When I get something new, I like to look after it, not have it defaced.

I think that what Leo did, or a note in a book is fine. It’s discrete.

I have a signed copy of my friend Melvyn Hiscock's Make Your Own Electric Guitar. I bought a second one for my nephew, who is a talented luthier in his own right. His inscription read : "Try not to cut off all your fingers, and sorry about your uncle!"

I have an errata letter, signed by the author of a bread book. I guess that’s why they like second editions.

I see amps and instruments that people have had autographed. That and distressing is not something that appeals to me. I guess that I look at these things differently than most folks. When I get something new, I like to look after it, not have it defaced.

I prefer to trash my equipment myself, or better yet, not. The luthier I've been working with for the last couple of years sells quite a few relic'ed basses. He charges less for them since it takes a lot less time to do the finish, and the first time I took one home to do a preamp install he initially didn't bother to give me a case for it. I wouldn't stand for that and demanded a gig bag. Wouldn't want to have that thing relic'ing my head in a panic stop!

yea I know what you mean, I have a perfectly new old stock baseball at home from 1969 that some yahoos had to go and sign their names on it, some guy Satchel Paige, Hank Aaron and about 20 others........totally ruined it

Many enjoy having autographs.

Some people refuse to give autographs because too many wind up on ebay, etc.

I see crowds gathering early at player entrances at stadiums to get autographs. I hear that some ruthless ones hire kids to get them. It’s big business these days.

This baseball was given to a very good friend of mine whose grandfather was one of the richest men in Atlanta in the 1960's and he went into the locker room of the braves with his friend Ted Turner the owner and had the whole team sign it for my buddies 16th birthday, including Satchel who Ted put on the roster for one year just so he could get his pension..........my buddy was/is a devout guitar player and was not impressed with a baseball and gave it to me and said he didn't want it....its been in a display cabinet ever since in my house.....Its not my favorite collectible either but he was going to throw it out, so........

I only have three books that are signed, one each, by Ansel Adams - Yosemite and the Range of Light that I bought from Matthew Adams (grandson of Ansel), Visual Symphony by Bruce Barnbaum (he signed it, just as he does his fine photographs (as did Ansel in the book I have), when I bought the book from him at a workshop he and two other well known photographers were conducting "The Owens Valley Workshops", with John Sexton and Ray McSavaney, in April 1990 at Yosemite Valley. I also bought a book from John, his Places of Power that he signed for me like he does his fine prints.

Other than that we have some signed art by friends of mine, and some signed furniture by Gustav Stickley, who usually signed his pieces (although, an occasional piece might have slipped past him!).
