Very nice piece of furniture. Looks like a lot of pride went into it.

Here's my little find -- a cool small plane that has been around since Vietnam. The OV-10 Bronco. It's been taken out of retirement to fight ISIS.
I manage to get good results with a honing guide with a sharpening stone or milled flat surface. Similar guides are available for use with grinders.
Rob Cosman has some great videos on hand cutting dovetails. Talk about challenging OCD. A nice way to make speaker cabinets.
Here are some pretty nice dovetails.
I did click and read quite a bit and didn't see any specific instructions for getting a number. Closest was I found this post from last fall: Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"
Attention Numberless GOF'sBe on the lookout for me.
Calling All Cars, Calling All cars:
Please respond to this to get a number. If you know about when you asked for a number, that would be good. I'll start giving out numbers soon. Then we will decide who will take over the numbers and when.
So far...

Hey guys (and gals)
Despite my join date of a few years ago, I am just now becoming active on talkbass. And I wish to present my credentials for membership in the Grumpy Old Farts group. And to receive a number.

I'm not much of a bass player (gonna work on that), but I am well qualified on all other counts (62yo, grumpy as anything). Please let me know if I need to do anything, like contact BadExample, or anything else to join. I'll try hard not to break the rules as I am settling in.
A couple of thoughts on recent upthread posts. Melanie's unique voice hit me hard when I was in middle school and she first emerged. She still does.
And not long ago, I was listening to one Wilson Pickett tune in particular, Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"
featuring as usual the understated brilliance of Duck Dunn. But that led me to a forgotten gem of childhood, the Creedence cover of the same. hadn't thought of that record in decades.
You are going to fit in well here. Don't worry about breaking the rules...all of us do it all of the time!
Rules? There are RULES?!?!? Nobody told me that! I'm gonna have to rethink this...

As for membership, I just dropped in and never left or got thrown out,...no real joining, formal process/paperwork or anything...and as for rules, at this point in life the only one I care about is that you have to first give respect to get respect. I hope that helps!![]()
Actually, you are very correct. There aren't any rules. The Rules Committee suspended them awhile back. They were broken so often, they couldn't keep up.

So the whole thing with @BadExample telling me I had to get a bass clef tattooed on my behind to be a GOF was a JOKE!?!? Certainly, I'm not the only one who fell for that.
Right?
Anyone?
That thing is permanent ya know! And it hurt!
If only it were me who made that!Very nice piece of furniture. Looks like a lot of pride went into it.
You mean the work of a Craftsman Workshops. That they are, and half blind dovetails at that. The work of a craftsman.
It's usually unwise to follow the direction of a person who proudly goes by Bad Example without getting a second opinion...of course I'm guessing that advice would have been of more value to you prior to getting inked! So the whole thing with @BadExample telling me I had to get a bass clef tattooed on my behind to be a GOF was a JOKE!?!? I'm focusing on learning hand tools first, then I'll start getting some better power tools.
