I have a 5-string, but it seems much heavier than all my 4s. However, I found the low B string to be just what I needed to back all these singers who have to transpose down! Then, I noticed that I hardly ever used the G string.
You guessed it, I converted one of my 4s to BEAD, as an experiment. To my surprise, it was a great success! Now all three of my main basses are BEAD and I couldn't be happier about it!

Re 5 strings...I play a lot of 12 bar blues in E (e.g. Before You Accuse Me). Would that B string be useful there, keeping in mind that it's all acoustic?
Every band I played in had horns and keys. Blues in E? Trumpets would have to play in F# and Alto Sax would have to play in C#.
Usually we played blues and similar stuff in F, Bb, or Eb. It makes the horns happy.
I like little cars also, here are a couple I have left.....hard to get a double bass in one......I bet you can't tell what the little red one is?????

its not a Sunbeam, but I have a 1959 one in the barn......... here's a hint it a 1965 jay Leno has one........the gray one on the end is a 1959 Fiat 1200 convertible, he other is a 1952 MGTD
the 9 pounder is an 1822 3 pounder out of a barn in Texas

Know Sumgai whose Dad owned a Jaguar XK150. He asked his kids if they would like to help him repair it. As in doing all the work, the boys discerned. They asked in turn if they put it back on the road if they could drive it. Dad says no. Jag is never repaired and traded As Is for a boat.
