Sam and Dave were fantastic live. They both came from gospel backgrounds and knew how to convey a song with heart.

A group I was part of(on keys, sax, flute and bass)in West Palm Beach backed The Coasters for one show. We had one night of rehearsal and went for it. Funny, cool guys.As always a prime pick for Soul Sunday, @SoulReflection. An interesting part of my history. I was deployed in Germany in 1975 and was special dutied to a USO tour for a six month duration. I was more or less winding down my tour and was told our band would travel with various acts from the states. Mind you most of the acts had already peaked in the business but were still quite marketable.
When my orders went through a Mercedes bus with two MP's came to my unit and helped me pack up my duffel bag and toiletries. I boarded the bus with my Fender Mustang bass and we went to an Air Force bass for two weeks and practiced every day. We were called "Black Sunrise" because everyone in the band except myself was African American.
When we ended up touring, we opened for the Temptations, the Manhattans, Sam and Dave, and Chubby Checker. Once those month long tours completed we ended up playing a couple months in USO shows with no headliner, and did some officer's clubs shows. Back then the clubs were huge. Sam and Dave were very hip and humble. They were funny and knew that they were there to make people happy. I remember getting misty eyed when we opened for the Manhattans when they sang a beautiful hit called "There's No Me Without You." What magical times.
The funniest thing is I left UW to join the Army -- my mom said, 'do like your dad' join the Army and develop some discipline. I called after getting special dutied and my mom was dumbstruck. I ended up doing exactly what she was sending me away from!I miss those days and the camaraderie.
So, you were the Sunrise?![]()
Let's hope so. IIRC, he was going through some stuff-medical and moving.Haven't heard from @BadExample recently...is everything OK?
It probably would have been Red Sunrise!

My wife and I went shopping today for a couple of thumb drives. She said that she needed to update her wardrobe, so we popped into a store along the way.
She saw a purse, a small dinky thing. I looked at the $25 price tag and said, why don’t you get it. She said, are you sure, it’s $640. Thankfully, she relented. I gotta start wearing my glasss.
I got home and received a notice that a flight scheduled for tomorrow was cancelled due to expected bad weather at LaGuardia. Thanks AA! After two hours on the phone, a travel agent rebooked. Because of the rerouting through another airport, the price was $400 higher.
Two examples of money down the toilet.
I’m plenty grumpy now and I’ll be plenty grumpy tomorrow.
Let me say first...I'm not wealthy, or even close. A teacher's pension plus Social Security does not add up to living fat. However...I've reached a point in life where problems that can be fixed with money just dont worry me. I've lived through too much that either couldnt be fixed at all, or required massive struggle. If I can make a call and write a check, I sleep at night.
Now, ice on my driveway..?that frap makes me grumpy.
Not a concern here (see above^) Lovebugs, for those unfamiliar, have 2 functions in life:making more lovebugs and committing suicide on yer car.Let me say first...I'm not wealthy, or even close. It would be nice if you could spray on a protectant, then peel it and all the bugs off your car.
That or get a robot. I saw this advertised on TV. Thought that it was a gag. Apparently not.
Uhhhh............

But, that's just so un-GOFish-like. No fish were harmed in the production of this PSA.It’s a matter of scale. Sometimes you have to step away from the close details and appreciate the overall picture and what’s important.

is arriving tomorrow. Can't wait although I wish you wouldn't make me spend more money. What's your take on the 2nd and 3rd editions? I have looked through the song lists on them and read the reviews but don't know if they have the same soulful appeal?
