Been looking for an audio upgrade for our RV (small space) with a 40" smart TV and a laptop PC. Laptop and TV speakers are all treble and no bass. I have used earphones but prefer not to be disconnected from the outside world. Due to the smaller space, I decided on a cheap 2.1 system from Best Buy. For $30, I got what I paid for...some bass but not much.
After more searching, I found the Logitech Z625 2.1 ($130 with optical port) that boasted a lot of output and the reviews suggested a good EQ app to make it shine. I downloaded Boom 3D for pc (free for 30 days, $14.99 to buy). This combination is fantastic. I set the Boom EQ for max bass and midrange boost. The least volume on the knob is 7 o'clock. I have it set at 8 o'clock and it is bordering on too loud but, the best is yet to come.
I have been researching loss-less audio codecs and decided to give Apple Lossless a try in iTunes. Compared to the same tunes I had in AAC and MPEG, the Apple Lossless files provided clear bass notes and no mud and, this is with old tunes from the '60's! And this is with my old ears with hearing aids

.
I am now in the process of redoing all of my CD's to Lossless and enjoying every minute of it.
I know this might be old news but, this old dawg is learning some new tricks...YMMV. Let me know if you have a better solution...
