I've paid into my health plan now for 33+ years and now that I need periodontal care, of course
insurance considers that dental, subject to a $1500.00 annual max. What a rip off!

How have we grown so spineless as a society to put up with this?

We the sheep bowed to the almighty Insurance consortium and dutifully elected those that will protect them. Just wait if the House and Senate get their way and privatize SS and Medicare. And to taxes for which we pay, will be given to those who could not really care.

Hmmmm!! This seems to have stirred up a hornets nest. Coming from the UK where as a child and a younger man I could get everything I needed fixed, I feel for you in the States. Here in Canada I have a benefit plan that comes after 37 years of working in the Electrical Generating field. It covers about everything I need.

Same here, union negotiated plan.
They didn't cover hearing aids either and still don't.

Really what they are selling the working class is catastrophic health subsidy insurance, not a HEALTH CARE PLAN.
rather A HEALTH INDUSTRY PLAN.

Thats the one current , important thing that us to the north have a leg up on, is medical.It would be hard for me to pay those big bills, a family of 4.I had a "jammer", about 4 years ago now(dont think it cost much, if anything), her medical covers all med now, peanuts of what not covered would be-huge!My wife still works ,im semi retired.I had just "grumped out"in the amp forum,"budget 500 watt head"thread I started because of only not having the basic luxury of holding or seeing said gear, but having to pay 1/3 to almost double your cost.We are your true neigbours, but still this "free trade" deal is a farce for us.Even before our buck dumped, we still pay waay too much , just look at new cars or trucks.Your pres is not business friendly like any former pres in your past. Why?I cannot justify paying $580 cdn for an amp that cost $399 u.s.Ouch!That diff has led me to curtail my quest for now, and just use my 800 watt power amp-pre amp.Although heavy, it does it's job.i should add that B.C is now, one of the world's most expensive place to live.#1 n.america for gas, cell phone, housing, and soon food.Yikes!

@BassmanPaul Unfortunately my friend up north, the USA belongs to insurance companies, banks and the money that elects those who protect them. [I think I may have just made a "no fly" list?] I do love my country, just not everything in it . I think I still have that right?

I just figured using take home pay in 1973, that I had to work over 700 hours @ $2.10 per hour take home,
to pay for my first professional bass rig. SVT with dual old stock 8X10 AlNiCo cabs, dollies, covers, the works. $1500.00
I was 19.

So I get kinda grumpy when someone today says all they can afford is $500.00 for a bass rig.
To me that says they just aren't serious and they aren't disciplined enough to work hard and save.

I took out a 36 month fixed bank loan and established my credit way early by paying that loan off way early.
I have always had some sort of steady income since I was 14.

In 1973 I had paid off my used Dual Showman and took over the loan on the Acoustic 360/361. Full-time job, graduating and preparing for college and gigging. No wonder I am so tired these days
