Since I don't 'read' horse, I stay away from all of them. You know, just to be on the safe side.

I don't believe there is a "safe side"...I stay away from the "back side". It could get poopie or, you could get a kick out of it .

One time in high school my buddy Dewayne and I took his two horses onto some oil property and thought it would be fun to round up some wild horses and try to get them out the big gate we opened to get in.

We rode like crazy but they wouldn't go out the gate. After that we raced back to his place and put the horses up. Lots of fun.

I loved my horses but ultimately sold them when life became so complicated I was no longer spending as much time with them as they deserved. I miss riding but I don't miss the expense.

This is a complete guess but I'm going to say maybe an impedance transformer of some sort. I don't know if Fender ever did this, but I used to play with a guitarist who had a low impedance output on his Les Paul and needed a transformer to plug it into most amps. It didn't look like that, was something barrel-shaped that we connected between cables, but it's possible this was a different design for a similar thing. Other than this thought, which is probably wrong, I got nothing.

Maybe a pre-amp of some sort...going direct to board.

I think it may have been one of the very early wireless transmitters. There is no obvious cable shown and it would have been too early (pre-1970's) for some of those Dan Armstrong effects boxes. I may not be right, but it's not as goofy a guess as you might think!

Yes, it says in the book Standing In The Shadows Of Motown, p28, that it was a wireless system.

In the 60’s, I had a fuzz box that was plugged into the instrument jack. There was another jack that was used to connect to the amp. Not seeing another instrument cable tells you that it isn’t a fuzz box.

Interesting to note, the first effect was a DeArmond tremolo.

Interesting, I wouldn't have guessed. Yeah, there were little, transitor, FM transmitters then. Battery powered. Wouldn't need a strong signal to cast to a near-by receiver.

The label on Jamerson’s box looks like Fender. They introduced the TR-105 wireless in 1961.
