When I was in in high school (I think I remember some of that, still) we'd go to the Midnight Movies at Heights Art Theater on Coventry for some of the wackiest films, mostly shorts, sometimes features (like Flesh Gordon, and Rocky Horror Picture Show). Thosedaysnights are what turned me into the model citizen that I am, now.
Woah first I've heard of Flesh Gordon in ages! Criminy.
It's not a coincidence that Volvo also builds tanks, and Saab also builds jet fighters

Those boys who want to be jet fighter pilots like Roger Ramjet are exactly the same as the boys in ancient Sumeria or Egypt who want to be chariot jockeys. by cracky
(and seems to me without looking it up the Saab Sonnet wasn't much more powerful than the VW, but dang a girl might have a lot of fun in a car like that ... )

Nice car. Being compact, it reminds of an early 60's VW Beetle back end mated with a late 40's or early 50's Chevy firewall forward.

I wouldn't mind having a checker cab as a car, the kind that they used in NYC. I still sometimes see them parked on streets where they are shooting movies.

Oh, I loved those old Checkers. They were being built just like that long after all the other old bubble cars from the 40's and 50's were nothing but rust. Was a sad day when I heard they were no longer going to make them.
It actually 'took' it's styling from 46-48 Mercury's:

There was actually a dealership for these in the central PA town where I grew up. A lot of them were painted a sort of burnt orange at the time and sold to the Yellow Cab company. This caused a confusion of those colors in my young mind that lasted for years.
There is a company planning to build/rebuild Checkers-not as cabs.

Where am I? Is this the right thread? What year is it? Is Taxi Driver playing at the marquis?
Too bad that Saab isn't building cars any more. There's a Saab dealer right down the street from me. Still open doing used cars and repairs.
