We’re safely back ‘home' in Liverpool from our visit to my sister in Carlisle, Cumbria. The air was wonderful to breathe. Clean and rich with O2. The scenery was magnificent. BTW the rail system is incredible. I was very, very impressed! It’s nothing like it was when I left the UK in 1973. The trains all seem to be Electric. They were fast and really, really quiet. All you could hear was a 50Hz hum from the motors.
One weird thing that happened was at Carlisle railway station. I went to ask at a ticket counter where to catch the train we wanted when my eyes went very strange. I couldn’t focus and I had strange images that I could not bring into reality. Fumbling forward I reached the counter and got my information but I never want to to experience that effect again. It was real as Dorothy saw that same thing.
It was an interesting visit. I learned that dear old Mum went back to school after she retired from teaching in her Sixties. She earned a BA degree in Ceramics. WOW! Way to go Mum!! We’re bringing some of her pieces back to Toronto to add to our collection.
Just outside our bedroom was a wall mounted photo of my sister and a group of others. I asked what it was and she replied that it was taken at Buckingham Palace when she received her OBE. WHAT?? What OBE? She was awarded it for services to Education for her work with “special’ children. My sister OBE! For the folk who don’t know what that is, it’s the Order of the British Empire. One step shy of Knighthood. By cracky, was I gobsmacked!
In a couple of hours we are heading to Oswestry to stay with yet another brother and his wonderful Irish wife.
