Still here and functioning. Supposed to play at a big blues fest on Sunday. Eight bands each doing a 45 minute set. Here's the kicker. 10 minutes for band change over and I haven't heard that this is backlined. Oh , and it's supposed to rain all day. Should be interesting to say the least. I'll try to remember to report back Sunday night or Monday on how this cluster**** went.

A few years ago I finally got to play the fabulous local Huckleberry Festival with the community big band. I waited over 25 years to get my turn. I think the set was supposed to be 90 minutes, but the change and sound check took 40 of that. I was glad I stonewalled my sub/alt, a nice high school kid who typically only used to show up for practice the week before a gig. For this one he asked me which tunes I wanted off the set list, and I just told him "all of them." The next year I dropped out and gave him the full set, and all the rehearsals.

Roll call all. Please report in that all appendages accounted for and present. The weather is getting humid and warm (for us Sitkans) and starting to see college kids running around doing the seasonal jobs. Kind of puts a spring back in my step. We had a contractor rebuild our front porch stairs, it was weather damaged and the cedar weatherproofing coat had worn off.
We're going to start repairs on my shed. One wall is rotting out and the front porch needs replacement. I've turned it into a Sanford and Sons collection of ancient computer and guitar/bass stuff I don't use or have dozens of duplicates. I could start a music accessory store! Giving most of it to the Salvation Army. They do good work and the money helps to feed the homeless.

Getting ready to rehearse for two gigs on July 3rd and 4th. I haven't been up to snuff and a little blue lately but time to knock my butt off the recliner and get motivated. Losing so many of our young heroes in older age jolts me into reality that we have to make use of our time. I'll work on that tomorrow.

Don't put off until tomorrow anything that can be put off forever.

Went to a street festival for lunch. A lot of people, nobody must work on Friday. The sun was so bright, you couldn’t see. It’s hot and the sky is blue. A beautiful day.

I’m worried about taking the car out tomorrow. There are multiple festivals going on, detours, road closures due to construction. On some summer days, I can be in my neighbourhood and it take an hour or two to go a few blocks to get home. Last weekend there was a bike race, this weekend to main road that I take is down to one lane. I know that there will be gridlock.

All this to get out into the country to enjoy some peace.

I never managed to get up there on that weekend, but I always heard plenty of stories from my friends who did. Still quite civilized compared to the Watkins Glen USGP races I caught in the late 60s/early 70s though.

Only sheep on Achill, no cows. Little Achill was given over to sheep in 1965 and sees human residence only briefly for a few summer days. Everything excepting water would need to be packed in and out. A few hardy souls, though....

Yep, that's much further yet in the Wayback Machine though. The era I caught was most famous for The Bog. Semi-innocents were enticed to try to drive their cars through it, under penalty of torching if unsuccessful. At least one tour bus succumbed IIRC. But recalling correctly would be a pretty big ask, even the next day!

But was he wearing jorts? There's a lot riding on this! The take a step back thing dates at least to '71, I saw it firsthand at my very first Show.

Each step in the journey requires it's own extensive consideration, initial estimates, investigation, pre-plannng, reconsideration, then review and update before reality check, then funding review before detailed planning, then feasibility studies into the viability of putting it off.

Barton Hall. All squished yet highly amused. ... not my first show and speaking of jorts, Formula 1 etc There's Sumgai from work who lived in Orange County when the Long Beach Grand Prix and the Grateful Dead were always the same weekend. This was not a decision path I had to take personally. Oh yeah the jorts, um, you know it gets really hot at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. Sun and more sun and surf and wind and dust ... the dust ....
