In other news: mostly present and accounted for. It's eerily quiet today, since the baby swallows left the nest right outside our kitchen window a couple of days ago. I got to see the first couple to leave egging on the recalcitrant ones, but have still never managed to actually see one fledging. We also have multiple quail families coming through our yard, one with really tiny babies today. And then there are the Scrub Jay youngsters, throwing hilarious hissy fits since mom and dad have clearly had enough and left them to their own devices. Good times.

All of our fledglings seem to have left their nests. But you did remind me to check on our local Osprey Cam!

PS Are you familiar with John Chamber's work (Champ Electronics)? He seems to have left the planet - tho' I hope not literally. Here's his 1000W all tube behemoth: http://www.chambonino.com/construct/const9.html

Good morning GOF's. Happy holidays. Wednesday night was excellent for me. I played in two bands and it was an outdoor show by the harbor. Doesn't get much better than that! The small town of Sitka rose up for 4th of July. We had a small fairground where there was a stage set up for the evening of 3rd of July. I played for a couple hours then my friend played Star Stangled Banneer Jimi Hendrix style. It was an excellent evening.

So what were you up to these last couple days, GOF's? What say ye? Report on all appendages present and accounted for.

Sure, I remember that project and another similar one that a guy named Ken Gilbert did back in the day. IIRC both were inspirations for Nate Wolfe's 2 X 500 watt tube amp that I posted a thread on a few years ago: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/2-x-500-watt-diy-tube-bass-amp.

I played through Nate's at a TB GTG I hosted out here, it was quite an effective space heater actually.

I remember Nate's through your postings. If memory serves, you were one of those who offered up your speakers as sacrifice. What I don't remember is your (and others') impressions of the sound. My knowledge of tube amp electrical / thermal efficiency is close to nil, but my guess is that ratio is pretty tiny.

It sounded surprisingly flubby at first, but I eventually sussed that Nate had turned off the negative feedback loop in the power section. Once that was switched on it sounded pretty much just like a Fender Bassman, but with unlimited headroom. There's an Ampeg-ish channel too, but that's never really been my thing so much. In any case, it sounded really good and could definitely get scary loud without breaking up.
