Here's the whole history of rock guitar all rolled up together! :bassist:

A really great musician and great all around person. I've had the opportunity to play with Bill on a number of occasions years back and still have a picture hanging in my hallway of us playing at a popular spot in Arlington back in the 90's. He really is a larger than life entertainer with heart of gold.

Good morning GOF's. Happy holidays. Wednesday night was excellent for me. I played in two bands and it was an outdoor show by the harbor. Doesn't get much better than that! The small town of Sitka rose up for 4th of July. We had a small fairground where there was a stage set up for the evening of 3rd of July. I played for a couple hours then my friend played Star Stangled Banneer Jimi Hendrix style. It was an excellent evening.

So what were you up to these last couple days, GOF's? What say ye? Report on all appendages present and accounted for.

Here's a pic of the stage:

Congrats on a gigging 4th, Will! Looks fantastic!

Had an impromptu "blues gig" in a GC Wednesday. Dude's soulful Strat playing had me grabbing the already plugged Rogue Beatle Bass thru a BA-110 and walking it down. So he commenced to singing! As soulful as anything I ever heard!!! Take that, GC.

4th had me out in the humid heat but, in the shade, close to a big fan, helping made it a magical day for a way bigger crowd than I expected in the backwoods. Good music, good food, good fellowship! But, man, was I drug out after load out. Whew!

5th had me swimming with the brother-in-law's 4 little grankids and their dads. Did things on the diving board I probably shouldn't have. Had a great time, though.

Body all aching and wracked with pain today. But gotta go over Sunday morning's songs a few times today to be ready for that.

It's a great time to be alive, so live it up, you GOFs! I'm trying to. :)

All of our fledglings seem to have left their nests. But you did remind me to check on our local Osprey Cam!

The one and only fledgling is doing dandily:

Invalid Link Removed

Cool! That's a beautiful area, my brother used to live in Ipswich and I once windsurfed in a big nor'easter just a few miles north of where that webcam is.

Around here you can barely go a mile along the Columbia without seeing a viable Osprey nest. A young inexperienced pair finally made it work for the first time this year right along one of my favorite local walking paths. I'll see if I can get some pics this weekend.

Small world....just got back from breakfast at the Heart and Soul Cafe in Ipswich. An excellent place. Bud, who owns the place along with his wife Julie, has a big picture of him and Ronnie Wood on the wall. Usually Motown and that sweet soul music on the box.

Windsurfing in a nor'easter strikes me as simultaneously exhilarating and fool hardy, especially if this took place in winter. Dunno if you were doing this in spring, summer, fall, or winter.

I will eat some clams in your honor.

Clam Box, isn't it? Saddened Maddy's in Marblehead is no more.

Any who believes there were no airports in 1776 were never in La Guardia

Going east on SR 133 through Ipswich, then Essex: Gotcher Clam Box, Woodman's, J.T Farnham's, Essex Seafood. In Gloucester, LobstaLand is the beez kneez and very close to the previously discussed Invalid Link Removed.

Never been to Maddy's, sad to say, but to a large degree that's because it's impossible to get to Marblehead. This is a well known science fact.

Woodman's! Haven't heard that name in decades.

Only Friday night did I tell [some] of the tale of my ̶s̶e̶n̶t̶e̶n̶c̶e̶ assignment in New Bedford. The roadside clam deal and totally set.

The Boston music scene really hopped. Saw Sonny Rollins in Boston around 73, I reckon.

Nothin' better than Sonny Rollins, you ask me.

Mmm...clams!

IIRC it was late fall, right around Thanksgiving. We launched in the Ipswich River with the idea of getting to the surf break off Crane Beach, which was off limits as far as the actual beach. The cops showed up and saw that it was my brother, shrugged, and told us not to expect or ask for any rescue assistance if things went bad. My GF was reputedly the first woman to ever sail there, and she borrowed a bigger sail than any of the men were using IIRC. Foolhardy barely covers it, but only one guy blew away and luckily he just ended up on the wrong side of the river mouth. For most of us it was just too windy to get out into the ocean, especially in side-off conditions. My GF and I were very used to sailing in sustained 40+ mph winds with bigger gusts, so it was actually fine until the tide changed and then what passed for common sense finally prevailed. There was a smallish bar break inside the river mouth that all but one young buck stayed around. He told us it was at least double head high on the outside, and he got spooked pretty quickly and never made it to the actual break. I've done stupider stuff (Astoria Bar on an ebb comes to mind, Google 'Cape Disappointment Coast Guard training'), but not by much. Good times!

There's stupid stuff and there's stupid stuff. Knew a kid who took a crew job on a square rigger and ... found himself shearing sheep to (partially) earn his return passage on another ship. By chance it is I who put that same kid in the drink in Annapolis moments after he said something that sounded a great deal like "whatever you do, don't let go of that."

And they let me have a bass.
