GHS Balanced Nickel strings

I think is non tapered, if yes , you will see a T after the number.

That is not how we (GHS) delineate between a tapered and non-tapered string. Look at the part numbers for Contact Core Super Steels and Progressives for proof.

That said, the B strings are not tapered.

Thanks Jon!
I just ordered a set to try from the GHS store.

Is the B string also two wraps, and even though the tension on the B is not exactly balanced like the other 4 strings is it balanced at least tonally?

Sadly no, it's not. There really wasn't any good way to get a solid B string with just two wraps; best I can get is a .115.

I think it's balanced really well; currently using the 5L-NB set on my Willcox Saber. It sounds great and feels good, which is more important than the number on a chart.

OK! A set of 4M-NB is open and relaxing on my bed awaiting installing on my 2017 Fender American Professional Precision Electric Bass Guitar. I wiped them down with a single Goby string wipe and detected no manufacturing residue whatsoever. Cleanest set of strings I have ever encountered from any manufacturer.

I can also tell you without playing that they are among the smoothest rounds I have ever handled. Extremely well made with perfectly even wraps. I am sure they will be a joy to play. More later.

Me Likey! :woot: These are most definitely dark stars. Just a tremendous amount of solid bottom end and low growl for days. :bassist: I'm going to let them play in for at least a week. I can tell I'm going to need to tweak a few things to dial in my setup to these strings, but that is to be expected.

Question: I can add a review to this thread, as it has tons of info and sound clips, or if you would like, I could start a new review thread. Either way is fine with me. :)

Excellent!

I plan to continue posting remarks and sound clips in this thread, but your reviews deserve their own thread. Maybe post a link to it here after you write it?

Yes that could be easily done and would have linked to this thread anyway. For search engines a review thread might be best, but I am not egotistical about it. I would probably be a bit more elaborate. Plus I am going to post a head-to-head vs D'Addario EXL 170BT's.

Good to know. I really like a well made set of strings. That was my major gripe when I tried some Dunlop Super Bright nickels - gaps between some of the wraps, strings different shades of silver, etc. Just really bad QC.

I am really interested in these BN's!

HoooWeeee! Aggressive picking is killer! :bassist: Super growly and very clean playing too. :bassist: Very low string noise or chatter. You can really dig in without fear of tin can Rotosound sound. :smug:
These sound like I'm going to have to try some sooner rather than later.
Deep lows, growly, "dark stars"= right up my alley!
I look forward to hearing more as you have time with them, and thank you for the insights so far.

You're welcome @e-flat. I've just focused on what is important to me and my personal style. These strings have plenty of nice ice creamy highs and some really mellow whiskey smooth high mids too. There's a lot to love here. So far nothing I don't like = No demerits.

See, right there, already! I would never have thought to compare the sound of the strings to ice cream or whiskey. For that matter, I'm not even sure what it means to make such a comparison! But who wouldn't want strings with highs that sound like ice cream?
