GHS Balanced Nickel strings

Hey, GHS-users - which should I try for rock-sound: these or Super Steels?) Would be great to get as close to the tone of old Rotos SW66 (yeah, I know I'm not original in this wish, lol)

I don't know what Roto SW66 are, but if they're anything like RS66, then Balanced Nickels are not the way to go. They're not even in the same ballpark as your typical stainless steel roundwound. Much thicker bottom end and WAY less top end. Balanced Nickels are not dull by any means, but they're not zingy bright either.

I've never used Super Steels, but if those or BNs are your only two options, then try the Super Steels first.

I’ve had a set of the BN’s on my P bass for a while, but not a lot of playing time so they are still breaking in. They do seem pretty mid forward at this stage, not real bright or dark. I do love the balanced feel and real good E string. I’m a fan of RC Boomers as well, IMO they last a lot longer than regular Boomers and less tension.

Curious if any DR Pure Blues fans switched over to GHS Balanced Nickels?

I don't NEED to change. I LOVE Pure Blues. But, you know, curious >_>

I did the switch a short while ago. Mainly because I needed just a tiny bit more tension and more warmth for my Stingray's. So far so good. The BN's do mellow out after a week or two.

First gig with BN’s on my Cutlass, was actually played by my good bud and groovy bassist for Big Earl and the Crying Shame our of Modesto, Randall. Strings brand new, he tuned one and played the whole set. Sounded great. He loved em.

.....and at this time there seems that there is no six string set.

Nope, and I'm not sure there will be. We really haven't had a huge demand from players for a C string for this set, and it would take a bit to make sure that C string "plays nice" with the rest of the strings, just based on construction of the current sets and the fact that I can't make the C with two wraps.

Question on these strings- what would be the correct string length to order for an Am professional jazz bass or Am STD Pbass with the string through the back option? Want to make sure I order the correct size. Thanks.

The BNs "long scale" are 37.25" in winding length, which is just about perfect on my 2014 Am Std P thru-body.
