GHS Balanced Nickel strings

Aww man, @michael_t I was looking forward to your take on the BF’s on that P. any chance you’d cycle 1 week of BF’s then BN’s, winner gets to stay on the bass for the summer?

Now that you asked, here's what I'm willing to do...

The Pressurewounds that are on my P right now will be one year old at the end of June. I normally change them once a year as part of the annual bass maintenance, but I was going to stick with them a little longer this time around till I could order a set of BNs. But the only thing is I may not be able to do that till later this fall or even early next year. Meanwhile, I already have a brand new set of BFs in my stock ready to go anytime.

So, I'll wait and see how the PWs are doing in the next few months (July/Aug), and when they're ready to go, I'll replace them with the BFs first so I can have at least a few months with them before committing to the BNs.

Sounds good? How's that for my being accommodating? ;):D

You are too kind sir! Honestly I don’t know how you have the patience. When I get a new pack of strings I just can’t fight the urge to try ‘me.

Serious question: - is it your experiencd that once you put a set on a bass it’s better to keep them there? Eg moving them to another bass, no matter how similar, inevitably is messing up the string in terms of its set, witness points, etc? Or is string swapping a consequence free pass time?

I generally don't like the idea of moving strings from one bass to another, or even uninstalling them and reinstalling them on the same bass. Once I put a new set of strings on a bass, that's where they stay till they're done. I have done it a few times in the past, but that was when I was in my flatwound phase a few years ago.

Yeah I kinda figured.

On my PJ, currently wearing BF’s, I just switch my pickup from from the CS62 to PureVintage63. Sounds really great, warm, full and mellow with a touch of bark. But I want a little more snarl on the g string, not just a snappy bark. it makes want to try BN’s just to see the contrast.

I guess I should use my existing strings as experimental, then plan to buy a fresh “keeper” set of whatever I decide stays.

I have yet to find a set of strings that feel as right as the Nickel Balanced, with my preference being the light sets. Every string feels the same, which makes it easier to find consistency in my playing, and build better muscle memory. They sound fantastic as well. They’re on the darker side of the tone spectrum, but they sound great nonetheless. Every now and then, I’ll venture out and try a different set of strings, only to end up coming right back to the NB’s after just a few days.

I use different strings on different basses, to intentionally highlight different sounds. But if I had only one bass, it would almost certainly be strung with GHS Balanced Nickels. Quite possibly the finest strings on the market today!

Just to let you know they work really well on a stingray. Warm and surprisingly „airy“ in the highs. They tame the stingray aggressiveness/clankieness a bit.

I have been wanting to try these. I am using Pure Blues and TI jazz rounds. How does the smoothness/texture of the Balanced Nickel compare to these?
Thanks

I'm using Pure Blues and looking to try both the TI jazz rounds and the GHS BN's. How are you liking the TI Jazz Rounds? Really dig the pure blues but looking to make the move to a pure nickel round and the Jazz Rounds and the Balanced Nickels are the two that have peaked my interest.
