Figured I'd post a group shot - I'm good on Gibsons' now.. well, a Victory fretless would be cool... oh, and an SG just feels kinda necessary... uh oh...

My dream bass! Beautiful!

Anyone had a chance to play this yet (2018 EB)? If so what are the pickups like?
I am getting a new bass in four weeks time and this is one of my possible choices. However, I have read a lot of negative stuff about Gibsons 2018 basses so was looking here for some opinion on them.
Thanks
As far as I can tell, the 2018 EB is the same as the 2017 with the exceptions of the color options. I have had a 2017 model since December of 2016, and I love it. The pickups are very versatile, and pretty much capture the bass sound I have in my head, if that makes sense. In humbucker mode, they sound deep and full, and are some of the hottest passive pickups I've experienced. With the tuned coil tap, they do a good job of comping a single coil sound, but in a different way that a standard Jazz Bass.
The only thing I'm not 100% sold on is the styling, but it has much grown on me over the course of ownership. I happen to have a very lightweight one, and I really like the 24 fret fingerboard, so those overcome the slight aesthetic concerns.
I've been pretty vocal in my love for this bass in the 2017 EB Redesign thread, so you can check out my past posts for more thoughts.
2017 Gibson EB redesign
Soon to be new Gibson bass day... Working through a warranty issue on my ES-335 bass, bad news it's a goner, good news they are going to send me something else. Asking for a list of options.
Yes, it was actually this post that I seen some negative vibes but I guess not everyone likes the look. I am glad you point out the difference between 2017 & 2018 because my local shop has a 2017 in the natural finish for less cost, but it’s not black and I really like them in black.
I for one like the look of this bass and prefer this design to the SG EB, dare I say. My only beef is that it comes with a soft case and not a hard case.
Yeah, that thread has its downers, but it gets better towards the end
When I'm comparing looks, I was thinking more in comparison to the 2013 EB, which I prefer a bit more style wise. Either way, the electronics are the same and they are both great options.
I also did not like the gig bag that it came with. I mean, its fine as a gig bag, but I prefer a hard case. After some digging and much trial and error, I found one that fit. See this post: 2017 Gibson EB redesign
here is mine..a 1981 Gibson Victory Artist bass...................
doesnt look beat up to me..I like it..I love those Victory Artists, especially in sunburst.
If it weren't a mahogany body, I'd have my beat up old Q-80 done up like that.

(the black one... the red Thunder Series V is almost mint.)![]()
This will be my first Gibson as I have been an Ibanez or Fender user in the past.
