I got a new camera, so I took another picture. Here it is, along with my cat who wanted to be the center of attention:

Nice Rd, still have it?

I don't. I traded it for a G&L L-1000 wich were just coming out at the time. The RD had the moog and the thing killed my neck and back; and that was when I was a sophomore in HS. These basses weigh a ton. I don't remember the weight but the left side of my neck to this day is more developed than the right and it's been 28 years.

Here's a bass that I bought yesterday. I paid $1,100 for it. They said it was a 1970, but It's not because of the pick-up placement and the larger headstock. It also has a 3 bolt bridge. I love the way it sounds, but I want to replace the pick-up and add another to the bridge. Ant comments? Thanks

Leave it as it is, looks pretty clean and unmolested. You can try replacing the pickup or install a Hipshot replacement bridge if you want to experiment, but FGS don't do any routing or drill extra holes just to install a 2nd pickup:rollno:

I recently stuck a Hipshot Trutone bridge on my T-bird. Apart from the ease of adjustment the comfort level when I'm resting my hand on it when I am picking is great! Tone-wise the jury is still out - I think it may be giving a bit more mid-range, but I'm still sounding like a T-bird!

I'm very glad I did it!

damn you guys. just went through the whole thread(damn snow outside). Got the gas going for a Gibson Les Paul bass. Was wondering the differences, tonal-y, weight, feel, necks, of the LP basses. Like the triumph( from the first page, sooo sick), the LP money bass, and the other I guess regular LP basses.

Hullo 1st post from me & me want in!

'68 EB0 which i had to painstakingly strip some awful sparkly blue paint off! lo and behold underneath was the reamins of the old cherry finish pretty much intact!

This bass has been kinda mashed, someones half inched the original pickup, tuners, scratchplate and knobs and has put a replacement 3 mount bridge in which will have to stay. bought the chrome cover which hides it anyway. The pickup is from an earlier 60s EB0 hence the larger cover. Got some original tuners and getting it modded to EB3 next week, all in all I'm very pleased! No headstock breaks, thin neck, plays like a dream! And best thing cost me under £400!!

I just put one on my '76. I really like it. I've got the action lower than it has ever been.

Any difference in tone? I just got a 2008 Gibby Thunderbird and have it set up pretty dang well despite the 3-point bridge. I just can't decide if I want to replace it or not. I just bought a "mod bar" off of ebay which is a steel bar that the string go through before the claw of the 3-point bridge. Basically it pulls the strings back farther to get the string wrappings off the saddle and it's supposed to add more mass to the bridge (i.e. more sustain)....I'll see how that works 1st I guess.

I don't have my amp here at the house, so I can't really judge whether there is a change in tone or not, but I did play it through a small amp and I think it may have a little more mids. I can't be sure until I try it with my gig rig though.

I had a mod bar on the bass until I replaced the 3 point bridge. It worked well for what it did, but it does take away the quick change capability. I found that because the holes in the bar are small, and with the angle the strings go through it after it is in the bridge, that I couldn't change one string at a time, because you have to remove the bar from the bridge to get a string out of it, so you have to loosen all 4 strings. Other than that I like it, but this bridge is far superior IMO.

Yep...after I bought it and really started looking at the pictures and thinking about the 3-point bridge...that's the conclusion I came to as well.....have to change all strings at once. Plus I got the monster bar with countersunk string holes so they will be REALLY close to the body of my bird (too close to simply run a string through without gouging the body). I'll try it and see if I like it or not. I just wanted to try and keep the bass as stock as possible but if the 3-point starts to annoy me (not really yet) then I'll seriously give the Hipshot consideration.

Any difference in tone? ...

I'd say stronger mids, but still with the T-bird strong bottom end growl.

It's a straight scew off scew on change, so easy enough to go back to stock if you wanted. There may be some ghosting of the finish as the bridge has a larger footprint than the three point bridge.

Best part for me as I said is comfort and intonation/action setting. Way better than before. Worth the $99 (eBay) any day IMHO!

If owning an Epi counts for anything, then count me in! I am installing a 1954 Gibson EB pickup in my Ep1 EB-1, so it will have the "guts" of a Gibson. I've already installed a Hipshot supertone bridge and would recommend it to anyone with an Epi or Gibson bass. Much more sustain and a little deeper tone. My friends noticed the difference in the sound right away. The big thing is being able to adjust the action for each string. No more "high" A string. I will post pics of the "new" pickup here as soon as it is installed and wired.
