Gibson refuses prize winnings

Really tho, 10 grand for Gibson isn't even bottom line for what they're in for...they'd be in, materials and labor in their production capacity, all told maybe 3-4 grand tops...is bad PR worth that pittance?

That's the only thing I find odd about the whole deal.
I don't really think they are anti-rap.
I don't think the winner is a whiner.
I do think the customer relations guy dropped the ball, hardcore.
I do feel this should have been settled up already.

Ultimately, it just sucks. Meh...back to America's next top model reruns.

I don't think it really boils down to Gibson hating rap. Perhaps there was fine print in the agreements saying the prize winner must use the Gibson gear on-stage or in-studio? Gibson must want some kind of advertising out of all of this. If that's the case, it's understandable to not want to give the prizes out when they'll just be sold.

Figures they would use MSRP as well. I think that's ridiculous but it will save Gibson a lot of money.

Hope Gibson fixes this and makes good on their promises.

I must point out that it has nothing to do with the guy being a hip hop artist. Maybe because he doesn't actually play any instrument they make has a lot to do with their reluctance to give the prize out. Companies don't sponsor stuff because they are kind folk. They do it because they get advertising. If this guy isn't seen to use their instrument then they don't get the advertising. That doesn't mean they are right or anything.

In any case he could just send them a solicitors letter and it might jog them into action. They probably have some legal obligation to fork out the prize.

so the piano isn't an instrument? :eyebrow:

Thats screwed up. There's a contest, it says Gibson will give you 10k worth of gear, they owe you 10k worth of gear I don't care if you fart out the national anthem, a win's a win and the man should get what he deserves.

I really don't care unless I'm the one winning. I read this whole thing. At first I was man, what a jip. Then I was like wow, what would I get/do with 10k of Gibson's products, then I went through about 20 minutes of daydreaming about all the new gear. It was like gear porn in my head. Then I just started thinking about porn. Then asian chicks. Then I realized I really don't care unless I'm the one winning.

Sigh. I'm not a proud man. :scowl:

Dangit Maki!!

Ok, well change the words "they make" to "are willing to give away" in that sentence.

yeah, it'd be understandable if gibson clearly spelled out that baldwin/other subsidiaries were off limits (assuming we can take the rapper's word at face value), but it seemed like the gibson guy kept on moving the goalposts. :hmm:

lol, sorry about the accidental "recontexting" of your quote, there, with my boldening.

anyway, this situation is worthy of a kanye west evaluation: "gibson doesn't care about rap people." :D

If you can fart out the national anthem, I think the prize money should be a lot more than 10k.

Interestingly enough I've seen a video of some guy dressed in a green/purple costume on aussie TV calling himself "Fartman" actually fart out notes, can't remember the song, but he was never more than a half step away :D
