Gibson refuses prize winnings

I can understand the price fiasco as a manufacturer will go by MSRP's in this case. That's generally how they work, but being unable to furnish a price list to the buyer is ridiculous.
Other than that, yes, the winner has been screwed around a lot, and I feel bad for the guy, I certainly do, and the reps at Gibson certainly aren't handling this properly. Give the guy a price list, and let him pick his stuff. It's that simple.

That's wrong period. I'm not a hip-hop (old skool yes -current generation NO) fan BUT Gibson is very very very wrong...i mean rappers can dream too even if they don't play.
This guy is an idiot. He's a master at making himself out to seem like the victim in a situation where he's really not (and I HATE that quality in people). He has created the whole mess that he's feels he's been so victimized by. What a jerk.
1) I would expect a prize package being awarded by Gibson to include prizes bearing the Gibson name. Baldwin may be owned by Gibson, and I don't fault the hipster hopster guy for trying to get a Baldwin product out of Gibson, but the fact that the Gibson prize package could not include products from Baldwin should not be a surprise to anyone. It's a Gibson prize package - it's going to be Gibson stuff.
2) I would expect Gibson to award prizes based on their price list - that is MSRP and not the MAP. Gibson is a manufacturer - they're going to use the manufacturers suggested retail price. That's why it's called that. Again, nice try, but why wouldn't you expect it to work this way?
3) He asked the guy from Lollapalooza to get involved. The guy (Kevin) had emailed him to make sure he got all his prizes. He reported that he did not get the Gibson stuff, and, he was not happy with the Gibson rep. Then he asked Kevin to get involved

SO, the OP asked for help from Kevin at Lollapalooza. Kevin does what's right and takes over the situation personally and contacts Don directly to make sure the situation is resolved. Kevin probably puts a little pressure on Don too.
Now, the hip hop martyr is dealing with Kevin because it’s what he asked for. Yet, he still tries to contact Don. Don already got an ear full from Kevin and he will be answering to Kevin on this. He replies to the indignant hip hopper with:

Now he's upset that Kevin has taken this up and he is to work with Kevin on it? He asked Kevin to take it up with Don. Don isn't going to answer to two different people on this. Especially when he keeps seeing changing requests on what product or products he will be shipping to fill the $10,000 prize - AND he's probably been chewed out by Kevin and told to answer to Kevin on this issue - so that Kevin can make sure it get's handled. He's going to answer to Kevin. I thought he was fairly polite about this point in the email quoted above.
The guy that posted the blog is an idiot with an unrealistic sense of self entitlement. He has no idea how business or the world really works, and he gets upset when the real word doesn't line up with his made up expectations. But he writes pretty well and people read his blog, so his misguided sense of being wronged is now being bought into by other dim wits who read this dim wit's blog.
Did you catch the part where the guy is upset that he has to pay taxes on a prize, and now that he knows they'll use MSRP and he'll pay taxes his "$10,000 prize is really just a $5,000 prize". You can't please this guy. He's one of these perpetual victim types. What an idiot. This guy's a drama queen, pure and simple.

, I dunno about that assessment Matt...maybe if Gibson was a tad more on top of things this stuff would have been spelled out beforehand....I cannot say for sure, yes, some things like the MSRP issue should be obvious, but the rest....well....we'll just dissagree I guess.-Dim wit.

Gibson said he could pick any $10,000 worth of Gibson gear. He said he wanted a Baldwin piano. They said you need to pick Gibson gear - $10,000. He came back and requested $13,000 worth of Gibson gear. It was a whole list of stuff. They said, that's more than 10K - You gotta pick 10K worth of Gibson gear. He changes up his order to a single item that wasn't on the original list. The Gibson rep, who admitted from the beginning that he is fairly new to his position, is probably just about as confused as can be by now. Then the guy goes over his head and has somebody come down on him a bit. Now the rep says he should go through that other guy - the guy that he's already gone through when he went over his head.
I read the story, and it really sounds like the prize winner has behaved like a true PITA and is now slandering Gibson publicly. What a jerk. I really don't see any problems on Gibson's end.

A few years back there was a "garage band" contest put on by Steven van Zandt - bands from a number of different cities competed in their respective areas to see who was judged the "best" in each city. Then, all of the winners were to compete in NYC for the grand prize yadda yadda.
Anyway, every band that won a semifinal round was to get a "killer" prize of Gibson instruments and equipment. (They were a co-sponser I believe) We won Philly, and got a few nice things - Gibson amp, Epiphone bass, Gibson explorer guitar..., we were very grateful and all, but it was nowhere near what we were led to believe we'd win. Still, getting free stuff is awesome so we just let it go.
Later we heard from the other bands, we were extremely lucky as almost half got a lot less than we did, if anything at all. Apparently Gibson got stingy and renegged on the deal at some point. Pretty sad really

Well, no, I don't work for Gibson. I actually feel like I am the only one in this thread that was able to read and the article and focus on the facts, and that everybody else in this thread lacks basic reading comprehension skills.
For the sake of conversation, can you please explain to me what exactly Gibson did wrong here?
Yes, if I were the winner of this contest, I would expect it to work that way. But I would also expect to be provided with a copy of that price list. At the very least, I would expect to see a list of the merchandise eligible for the prize and the value that was being attributed to that merchandise for the purpose of the contest. He was provided with neither.
