Gibson refuses prize winnings

This blogger handles things poorly from his end and really contributes to the F'd up situations he finds himself in, then he makes himself out to be martyr. I'm surprised I'm the only one who sees it. This guys a drama queen.
The only thing I disagree with is that you think ...."your the only one who sees it"....

With all due respect, every time you post in this thread, it becomes more and more clear that you have let your emotions(and whatever preconcieved notions) cloud any any objectivity.

I realize that we may not have all of the details, but you haven't even GRASPED the details presented.

Well, really, I'm pretty far from being emotional about this issue... The truth is, I'm no fan of Gibson products or hip hop music so I really have no stake in this. My participation in this thread has more to do with having a slow day at work than anything else. I do find it an interesting conversation, mostly because I find things more interesting when I'm in the minority. I'm an under dog by nature, that's why I play bass.

To recap - I hope for the last time - my point (if I have one) - The blog is one half of the story. The half from the guy who is mad at Gibson. None of us can really know what went down, and what's going on now, based on just his side of the story. I GRASP his side of the story, and I take it with a grain of salt. I also keyed in on the fact that there was several places along the way where he had incorrect beliefs about what he was entitled to. The blogger didn't GRASP the difference between a Gibson product and a Baldwin product, nor did he GRASP that when a manufacturer says $10,000 worth - it will be based on manufacturer's price. The blogger doesn't GRASP that when you have Kevin go over Don's head and chew him out, and then Kevin tells Don that everything goes through him now, and you are informed to go through Kevin... well, Don is not going to take you calls anymore. You have to go through Kevin. this guy doesn't GRASP that?

He's certainly NOT doing the right things to get this resolved. Quoted from the blog:

"It’s been a few months since I even bothered to contact anyone. The last few times I contacted the Lollapalooza folks, they always seem surprised that I hadn’t received anything yet. I’ve realized that it’s basically useless to complain to them anymore, because it’s clear that they’re still dealing with Don Pitts"

I read his blog. He should be dealing with Kevin (Lollapalooza) because his dealing with Don Pitts directly didn't go well, he complained to Kevin, Kevin contacted Don and it was decided that Kevin would handle this and the blogger should stay in contact with Kevin. If he wants his stuff, he needs to be calling Kevin about twice a week until he has all of his stuff. Why he chooses to "not bother to contact anyone" at this point, or attempts to contact Don Pitts is beyond me. I think he'd rather have something to bitch about in his blog than actually get this resolved.

I really did read the blog, I read all about the whole mess, and I can see through the cloud of BS to see how the blogger helped to create the mess and how he's not really helping to get it resolved.

This guy just wants attention. I read between the lines, and I see much evidence that this guy is a complete idiot.

IMNSHO, of course! :p

Wait a sec...when did the guy call himself a martyr???

You've also called him a "drama queen" and a "jerk".

Again, I'm sure there may be more to the story...but, you've already passed judgement...

The truth will come to light-I just can't stand it when people misrepresent and are quick to characterize others.

Man, Gibson could have avoided this and all future issues regarding prizes if they just donate actual prizes...Like: "You win a Les Paul Custom". Done.

Plus, if it really is an issue of the guy being a rapper who doesn't play guitars (which I doubt)...why the heck would Gibson sponsor a contest that lets hip hop and rap into it? Only sponsor rock contests then.

I am stunned that this has been going on almost a year regardless of how often people contact each other. There should have been maximum of 3 contacts back and forth.
1. Gibson: Here is a list (with prices) of stuff to choose from.
2. Winner: Here are my choices.
3. Gibson: Ok great...you'll get a package in X weeks.

You're hardly in the minority, Matt. More than a few have shown no sympathy for the guy in this thread.

IMO I would love to hear Gibson's response. In fact, I posted what appears to be the CEO's response in the first page of this thread.

I pinched a name from one of our local rags and called Gibson, posing as a reporter. Of course they wouldn't talk to me. Maybe I should pretend to be an Attorney? :hiding:

Why are you under the impression that Gibson is not honoring the prize?

Well my first clue was that he doesn't posses $10,000 msrp worth of gibson gear.

When he asked for a list of prizes to choose from, they (Don Pitts) gave him a catalog that included Baldwin pianos (with no prices). Regardless of your "all knowing of how the world works"...it is reasonable to assume that Baldwin pianos are among the prizes if that is the list that you are given.

And him taking matters into his own hands by getting prices from Sam Ash and Guitar Center isn't way off base either...seeing as he asked for what he could choose from and what it costs and was not helped. Yes, most people would ASSUME that MSRP is what they would be using...would it have been that hard for Gibson to tell him that from the get go...along with a list of available prizes?

What do you expect the guy to do when he was not being helped? (which he asked for) He is just being told that he is choosing incorrectly, but not being told how to do it right?

So you were INDIRECTLY calling him a "jerk" a "drama queen" and an "idiot"?:eyebrow::hmm:
:D

Umm, yes. Did you think the blogger was posting this thread?

I thought this thread was about some guys blog where he's accusing Gibson of wrong doing - ie not delivering goods promised as contest winnings.

I read his blog, and thought "wow, he sure misunderstood a lot of things, and really handled things poorly every step of the way"

Also, after reading the blog, I thought "Wow, this guy's really making himself out to be a martyr. What a drama Queen... What a jerk"

I read several responses (not all) in this thread. I read about 30 posts or more into the thread (for me page two) and everything I had read in this thread was people jumping on the "Gibson bad" band wagon and supporting the blogger. I read a couple of posts suggesting a widespread boycott of Gibson products.

I felt that my take was a bit different than other peoples, so I posted it.

What is your source for that little tid-bit of information? That directly contradicts how the blogger tells the story in the blog you linked in the first post. He said nothing of Don Pitts sending him a catalogue at any time. Is there another article about this some place that I haven't seen yet, or do we just get to make stuff up as we go?
