Reactions: B-Mac and Avezzano
Gibson has been on a determined push to resurrect and perfect the models they offer, now being led by people who KNOW what made the old ones great and are bound to recreate and improve upon those classics.

So that they are doing the same thing on a smaller scale with their traditional bass models is not surprising.

It will be interesting to see if after this, they commit to building contemporary long scale designs to compete with the non-vintage market, axes to go against contemporary Fenders, Music Mans, Ibanez, the BB Yamahas and everything else. To conjure such an axe that's contemporary and Gibson at the same time is an interesting proposition.

And of course, they still have other vintage pathways they could mine, like 335-style EB's, etc. But I got to think a set neck Gene Simmons TBird for $2799 is NOT a direction I'd have considered, but that's me.

Time will tell.

The new NR T-birds can sound quite a bit like a P bass. I'd put mine against other modern basses.

Yes, the Gibson Les Paul Signature bass was the forerunner that lead to the Epiphone Jack Casady bass with the Jack designed pickup. Mr. Jack Casady and Epiphone had the brains to make it so that it would be affordable, and would sell in very large numbers. Thankfully they had very good quality, a low price, and developed some very appealing colors over the past 22 years that it's been in production.

I always felt there was a market for an EB 3 style bass with lightly larger body and 32" scale.
The bass market is too indoctrinated with largely 34" and 30" scale and not enough 32" for potential customers to try.
And, according to TB, myself included, there is also a market for 5 string players reverting to their 4 string roots.
