Either something by Keen (boots or sandals) or a pair of Adidas shell toes to match the mood. If it's a black tie affair, I'll wear my all-black Adidas shell toes with the tux.

These things feel like rainbows on my feet. It’s hard to try wearing anything else once you’ve tried them. Wish they came in checkered patterns... or tiger print. You know... because. Things.I wear all black Sketchers.
As of late for my church service gigs it has been either Vans or Converse, but I usually don't wear either of those for daily use. I don't fall in with the younger hipster crowd and wear too off the wall stuff even though I'm in my early 30's. Just not my style, man!

It is surprising how important shoes are, and they are never really talked about by musicians. You need something comfortable but also appropriate for the venue and style of music.
Some guys I played with wore Vans or Chucks. They seemed to go well with any outfit, including a dinner jacket. (It’s Southern California, so things are a bit more casual here.) I worked with a singer who just would go barefoot on stage. Bottom of his feet obviously dirty, even if he just showered, from the dirty stage. Elevated stages put his bare dirty feet front and center on display. The audience didn’t seem to mind???
I’d wear comfortable all black sneakers, or a super uncomfortable but much more stylish loafer. I’d get comments on the loafers (“nice shoes!”) - they weren’t flashy but they set off my outfit nicely. But at the end of the night, my feet would hurt so bad! The sneakers were always the better choice when I could get away with them.
I’d fully rock a set of cowboy boots if I were in a Country band. Or even Southern Rock/Blues band.

I haven't worn shoes in over 20 years. I wear sandals year round and in the summer sometimes play barefoot. I have a specific type of sandal I wear for certain gigs where I also wear a suit. On some occasions like a wedding or more formal event I wear black dress boots but only on stage. The sandals go back on after the gig.
These are among my current everyday favorites. Very comfortable and pretty good looking. I also have a black pair.

Not to be confused with the Air Gramps (with Velcro instead of laces).
Usually high top skateboard shoes or high top Chucks.
One of our guitar players got called out about his shoes at a battle of the bands we did. They were gym shoes nothing special, the whole bar thought it was petty. We will ride him about it to the grave, as he would if it was one of us.

Black Doc Martens. Polish ‘em up before every gig too. Rituals are soothing.

i love polishing my shoes and boots. it's very therapeutic...not sure if that's the routine or getting high off shoe polish...but it works! plus, decent quality leather shoes that can be resoled can last for decades with a half hour of care every 6 weeks or so.
