Go ahead and gig in shorts, but please, please, please (I beg you) do NOT wear them with white ankle socks... Seriously dorky. (And I'm a sucker for geeks, but this crosses the line...)

IME, people listen with their eyes as well as their ears.
If you get ones that are low enough they are just above the shoe or hardly show, you're okay with white. Better no socks. Black ones are okay if they match what you're wearing and you have black shoes. But the white sock slouched down with sneakers look.... Um, just bad.
A cooler look (imho) with shorts is a relaxed kind of loafer with no socks.
Maybe it's just a personal pet peeve of mine, but the shorts with white socks look just is too goofy.
But what do I know? I gig in a skirt with a big cherry on it and heels, LOL.
Thanks for the affirmation, dad. Stay classy Invalid Link Removed
Over 90 degrees and in direct sunlight? We call that spring or fall where I live (the Gulf Coast). From late May through mid October it's usually upper 90's during the day and the humidity is between 85% and 100%. Come on down here for a gig and put on your all black outfit and long pants... and don't forget the paramedics - you'll need them when heat stroke occurs. Of course, if it's an indoors gig, long pants are fine. And for the 3 weeks of winter too. Otherwise, I dress for survival, and suggest my bandmates do too.
Grow the freak up people. By now you should know that it's not about you when you play music it's about the people listening and WATCHING. Give them a show, that's what they paid for and not to see your legs....
Yeah, we can't all wear cool zoot suits and sunglasses on stage, I guess![]()
What is your opinion on this subject?
I don't doubt that at all. Are there no women in the crowd at your gigs?I doubt that someone in a bar is going to care what kind of pants you wear.
I've never understood the hate for shorts while gigging. I mean, obviously dress up if you're playing for a wedding or whatever, but if you're just a band paying onstage and having fun, then how you dress shouldn't really matter. I doubt that someone in a bar is going to care what kind of pants you wear.
