Gigging in Shorts?

If you get ones that are low enough they are just above the shoe or hardly show, you're okay with white. Better no socks. Black ones are okay if they match what you're wearing and you have black shoes. But the white sock slouched down with sneakers look.... Um, just bad.

A cooler look (imho) with shorts is a relaxed kind of loafer with no socks.

Maybe it's just a personal pet peeve of mine, but the shorts with white socks look just is too goofy.

But what do I know? I gig in a skirt with a big cherry on it and heels, LOL.

Nahh not just you. I got "the look" from my wife the one time I tried to wear white socks with shorts. Now it's no socks......

Over 90 degrees and in direct sunlight? We call that spring or fall where I live (the Gulf Coast). From late May through mid October it's usually upper 90's during the day and the humidity is between 85% and 100%. Come on down here for a gig and put on your all black outfit and long pants... and don't forget the paramedics - you'll need them when heat stroke occurs. Of course, if it's an indoors gig, long pants are fine. And for the 3 weeks of winter too. Otherwise, I dress for survival, and suggest my bandmates do too.

LA, as in brewton?

Grow the freak up people. By now you should know that it's not about you when you play music it's about the people listening and WATCHING. Give them a show, that's what they paid for and not to see your legs....

Again I have to point out that I am quite sure you live nowhere near any state in the American South or Southwest. Otherwise, you simply would not have such a silly opinion.

When it's 90+ degrees with 80-90% humidity outside, EVERYONE is wearing shorts.

Yeah, we can't all wear cool zoot suits and sunglasses on stage, I guess :D

Really, man, it just all depends on what value you place on your appearance verses your comfort level.

Some people are okay with looking very casual for the sake of comfort.

Other people want to look more dressed up, with less regard for comfort.

It's revealing that most of the posts in favor of shorts don't base that support on "it looks good," but rather "I'm hot" or "I'm more comfortable."

(Nearly) every one of us would probably agree that a suit and sunglasses looks better than cargo shorts.

I'm in the camp I'd rather look (as) good (as possible) and sacrifice some comfort.

Now where is my hairpiece??? :D

Yeah, 'cos, like it's impossible to wear even very light long trousers in high temperatures. Anything that covers your knees is a serious risk to your personal health. You have been warned!

Anybody know where I can buy welders' shorts? :D

ahahahahahhahaha this is the best post

I've never understood the hate for shorts while gigging. I mean, obviously dress up if you're playing for a wedding or whatever, but if you're just a band paying onstage and having fun, then how you dress shouldn't really matter. I doubt that someone in a bar is going to care what kind of pants you wear.
