For those of you who are saying "NO!!!" to shorts, what sort of music do you play? What sorts of gigs are you doing?

I also play in my church band, and while there is no explicit dress code, if I showed up in shorts and a T-shirt, I'd get some funny looks for it.

Uhh, the kind of gigs where everybody takes home at least $100 and tips are not $1 Singles. ;)

I have black pinstripe shorts that are both punk rock and classy at the same time, those would probably be the only shorts I'd gig with, maybe basketball shorts if it was themed or something.

The real issue here is not the pants/shorts debate but the colors. Pant/shorts alike, if the color is wrong to make notice of perspiration you should stay away. I think the best bet of this is light gray, you can see sweat stains so easily, I had a pair of shorts like this that are no bueno in more humid regions, in the same humid environment I saw a front man in grey denim and when he turned around it looked like he pissed out his butt he was sweating so bad... That is much worse than whether they are pants or shorts.

I'm a runner (8 marathons in these feet) and when I'm in peak training, I have to say that I've got decent legs (my DW says so). But, they're still 49-year-old legs. Folks aren't coming to look at them, they're coming to hear us perform.

So...no shorts. Ever. I can stand the heat.

I wear shorts, hell yes. Especially when it's hot on an outdoor stage. I say to each his own. Those of you copping an attitude should really check yourselves- it's one thing to do it your way, quite a different thing to act like everyone should do it the way you do it.

Tom Araya did once, in 1992. And Kerry king was wearing shorts too that day.

If the singer from Slayer did, and if you're a metalhead, you can show that if you're asked about wearing shorts onstage.

More seriously, i don't care at all about my look onstage, it's all about the music. Only i would not wear them if i was in a black metal / dimmu borgir style, where the look is as important as the music.

I can only imagine someone who lives in a nice, cool temperate climate saying this.

Here in Louisville, KY, we ****in' wear shorts when it is hot out. If you don't like or approve of this . . . don't come here. It's not about sparing someone the sight of our uncovered legs -- it's about not having heatstroke on stage.

Edited to add: I am wearing shorts in the avatar pic right up there . . . and it was probably an easy 95 outside that day. No fan. Sun blaring right in my face. Humidity in the upper ridiculous range.
