The drummer can get away with it. the rest of the band, no, unless it's say over 80 degrees. IMO

I guess that's a good sub question to the topic. How often do you normally where shorts? Meaning do you wear shorts 24/7 then slip on some slacks for gigs?
Only with a matching shirt, a contrasting tie, and sunglasses.

Over 90 degrees and in direct sunlight? We call that spring or fall where I live (the Gulf Coast).
For those of you who are saying "NO!!!" to shorts, what sort of music do you play? What sorts of gigs are you doing?
Like I said in my first post, I play in a rock trio. We do mostly originals with some covers of anything from Green Day to The Beatles to Foo Fighters. Our gigs are at bars or outdoor festivals. There isn't really a dress code in those sorts of venues. We're doing a TV spot in Fresno on Friday, and I probably won't wear shorts, but more because my legs are too white for the cameras to handle! Our only band uniform is.... Chuck Taylors...
I also play in my church band, and while there is no explicit dress code, if I showed up in shorts and a T-shirt, I'd get some funny looks for it.

Keep gigging in shorts and you'll only get one gig per year.I gig in shorts whenever I can and preferably barefoot. This happens maybe once a year at most.
