Gigging in Shorts?

What are the best shorts fpr metal?

There is a middle ground: Wear a pair of hiking pants, the soft loose fitting ones like you see at sporting goods stores. You can wear ankle socks underneath or even sandals. Comfy and no need to subject the audience to your ugly gams. Metal musicians wearing shorts...well at least spandex is out of fashion.

I have got two pairs of shorts I've had for 4 years. I wear jeans every day, wether it's 95 with 80% humidity (my stopping point when I'm woking is when the two numbers equal 175, someyimes lower when it hit tripl didgets air temperature-wise) or -20 in three feet of snow, though I might just wear my carhartt insulated bibs at that point. I don't really care.

To be honest, I always thought boots and long socks looked weird with shorts. I've only got boots as of now... And they're two well worn pairs of size 12 Red Wings that feel great with my big, slab feet and still support well, and a brand-new set of Vasque Breeze boots, along with my nicely broken in Wastach set. I think I might have aset of Asics running shoes from last year somewhere, but I don't have short socks.

Come on down to SW Fla in the summer months!!! Its 95 at night and add the humidity in to crank it up to 100d. You'll be wearin' shorts skinny legs and all hahahaha!!! Theres a thread goin right now about a skirt or kilt sp) or a Somoan Lava Lava that I wear and when your in Rome do as the Romans do, same in Florida when your sweating your ass off!! Doc

I personally don't on stage. Playing with friends in a basement or at practice? Sure. I couldn't personally take myself seriously as a musician if I saw pictures of myself playing in shorts on stage! O.O
That's just me though! If you do it, it REALLY helps to be skinny or in decent shape!

There isn't a simple answer to this. It depends on the gig, the venue, the shorts, the time of year, the other band members' appearances, your appearance, the type of music... tons of factors.

Would I wear my trusty cargo shorts while playing a fun casual rock gig on a warm August night? Definitely.

Would I wear shorts playing in a jazz combo at a swanky charity auction in February? Not a chance.

What about a frat party in early September? Yep.

How about the same frat's party in January? Nope.

Like I said, there's no easy answer... just use your best judgement.

This is the best answer. I'm kind of amazed at how many are anti-shorts in every situation.

gigging in shorts....you bet! Heck, I even have a pair of khaki cargo shorts specifically for gigging! Depends on the weather. If its hot....no problem. Depends on the gig though? Most of the club gigs no, but any other gig I can get away with it...shorts it is! I've even done the double whammy......shorts and sitting down! (I was having back issues, so I guess I somewhat had and excuse!!)
