GK 112-II NEO

Agreed ... it's like trying to compare apples to robotic-squirrels. It's tough..believe me I've tried :eyebrow:

For myself I have a Christopher plywood 7/8's upright with Corelli's .. David Gage realist under the G string side bridge foot .. as well as the Clark Biesele magnetic pickup mounted at the end of the fingerboard...

I won't be able to compare that to anything other than the sound I'm currently used to. :)

Ok - big problem here. I've had my MB800 for over a year and I love it. I just bought two new GK Neo 112-II cabs. I hooked them up to the MB800 in full range mode with the supplied speakon cables. Here's the issue - when both are connected, all the bottom drops out yet if I hook up only (either) one, it sounds very good. What gives?

'Sounds like one of them is wired out of phase, or the cable itself is wired incorrectly.

I did, yes.
IMO, "that's too much amp for those 2x112," and I'd be very careful with that.
The MB800 has about 1000 watts of burst power on tap, and not much high pass filtering.
The can mean some big transients, big cone movement. Take it easy with that......

That's for confirming what I suspected. I wonder if an RB700 MK2 would work well with these?

Yup. When two speakers are out of phase, one speaker is moving out, and pushing the air with it (creating a high pressure area), while the other speaker is moving in, and "pulling" the air in, or creating a low pressure area. The 2 basically cancel each other out.

With a single out-of-phase speaker, you don't notice that because it's moving so fast, so it's only off by a fraction of a second.

The RB heads don't have as much free ranging low bass as the MB do.
Depding on if you want gritty or cleaner, you might prefer the 700 over the 1001.
I went with the 1001 because I prefer cleaner.

i use a mb fusion 500 and like the edge the amp gives to them...

i also like to use these with an 800RB, with the neo 210 in the high end amp...

nice and clean, with an extra bit of dynamic to the sound...

someday i hope to get a 700RB or the 550 i think it is, so i can check out the biamp feature of the cabs...

So I should quit lusting for an MB800 and learn to be happy with my MB500 driving my pair of 112s? But the MB800 has those cool knob lights! :bassist:

Sadly, that appears to be the case. I called GK and they also told me that the MB800 is "too much amp" for two Neo 112-II's. Looks like they will be going back, as I love the MB800. I will probably try the Neo 2x12 next. Hope it works as well with the little giant MB800 - as described in Alan's BGM article (no reason to think it won't actually).

My test drive 112 arrived today and my local music store is letting... Actually.. Suggesting I try it on my gig Saturday. Wicked.

I had a brief trial run with it today at the Music store today on a wide selection of basses and it handled well using the Mb fusion and the MB200.

Looking forward to hearing my fretless j bass though it tomorrow.

I'll be trading in my GK Neo 210 so I want to be sure.

Problem solved/crisis averted. As suggested by several here, I reversed the speaker wires on one of the cabs and *PRESTO* hamma-time. Apparently one was out-of-phase with the other. Sounds very good now with both. I'll gig them tonight and see what there is to see. Thanks to all for your help!

I can't seem to find another GB NeoX 112T to stack on the one I already have. Don't see any knew and they are rare in the TB classifieds.

Plus, when I have seen a new NeoX 112T for sale; abit pricey for a single 12 cab. So I'm wondering if I could stack one of these, nicely priced, new GK 112-II neo cabs with good results?

I imagine this combination is not very common as most would prolly use a like second cab. Esp at these price points. But I like the NeoX 112T cab, I have it already, so figured to use it with another 112.

I first thought about the Focus 112 cab, alot of new ones available. But I always gig 5 stringers, P5, J5, active KZ5 using either MB500, Streamliner 900, GB 9.2 and a couple other amps. I thing that'd be too much for the Focus cab. No PA support in a somewhat loud, classic rock/r&b band.

Ive been checking some 112's on FS threads. Some HD112, GS112, custom 112's. Not sure some of these are not so powerful, stand alone types that they'd diminish my GB cab. I know its a crap shoot. But any suggests on a 2nd 112 for my NeoX 112T? thanks all, e.
