GK Combo Shootout...MB210 vs. MB212

I was playing through my MB210 here at home last night and got a weird noise, almost like the noise you get if the jack is out of the bass. I'm not sure if maybe my foot was on the jack and I gave it a slight pull and it made the noise or if it was something internally in the combo. I played for another 1/2 hour and it never happened again. I have practice tomorrow so I guess I'll see how it does. It will be the 1st time using it with the band.

I played my Precision through my MB210 today at practice...the 1st time I got to use it other than just playing at home. When unloading one of the guys picked it up to take it inside and couldn't believe how light it is. I took some tips from you guys as for as the settings you use and adjusted my amp accordingly. I actually wrote down 4 sets of settings from on here. I messed around with them on some of the songs but didn't make any drastic changes. The amp sounded great. Lots of power and punch. I was playing with a loud drummer and 3 electric guitars and a singer. They thought the amp sounded good too and surprised at the sound it produces, for not being all that big. I'm gonna get the 210MBE 2x10 cab to stack it as soon as they are more readily available. So far I'm happy with this combo.
Just curious how you guys like having the amp controls at the top/back (and recessed) of the unit? I suppose if you have an MB2XX by itself on the floor its easy to look down on the controls. But if you put it on top of another cab I can see it getting much more difficult to easily see the controls. I'm 5'9" so it doesn't take a lot of amp height to make seeing the top/back mounted controls difficult. This is one reason I like separate heads. tallboybass, you need not reply!
Seeing the controls isn't a problem for me. I do like having the input on front of an amp though so the cable jack isn't draped across the top of the cab but I can deal with it. It may be a bit of a problem when stacking cabinets, not sure yet. That's my next step...ordering the 210MBE 2x10.
count me in on this one....Thanks to the OP for starting this thread. Choosing between the MB210 and MB212 is the exact decision I need to make so I'm all ears.
Comparisons of the MB210+extension cab to the MB212 would also be good. Anyone else?

Quick summary....MB210+115 was quite a bit louder and had more thundering lows than the MB212. As the MB212 breaks in, it is doing quite well in the lows department...actually I liked it more when the lows were a little more 'tucked' personally. I'm running the MB212 straight-up 'flat', whereas the MB210 demands to have the lows rolled off and the highs boosted for 'my' sound. The MB210 by itself strains a bit to deliver the volume level that an MB212 can handle with ease.
So for volume it's
MB210+115
MB212
MB210
in pretty much equal stairsteps.
Let me know what else you'd like to know.
thanks. Good to know. I sort of assumed that a 1-15 plus the 210 would have more sound, but I was interested in a comparison sound wise, between the two. Most of my use is old style soul & R&B, New Orleans funk, and jazz trio work, but I occasionally get calls to do plays, like "Rent". Still a tough call, but I like the stack idea - that's what I have now.
Yes, the stack has much more low end push. The high mids and highs kind of lose out to the lows and low mids. It's a BIG sound.
Sounds like the stack would work for you. Great concept, just bring what you need. It's amazing to me how far the MB210 on its own, extends into the loud gig zone. I'll bet with the 'soon to be available' MBE210 added on, it will be killin'!!
BTW, the MB210 almost sounds like a 15 to me. There's SO much low end and not as many highs as you would expect from a 210.
The MB212 is rocking my world right now. Pretty balanced sound set 'flat'. Growly sweet tone, definitely GK sounding but with more 'meat'. Both of these combos seem like they were designed for a Jazz Bass!!
After 2 more 4 hour gigs, the MB212 is really opening up on the low end, Like I said before, 'for me' it was better before it broke in. There is a real resonance on the E on the 7th fret of the A string. Not 100% sure it's just the amp, but it really sings out there! Will have to start dialing the lows back a bit.

Ok. I have MB115 and used it for couple gigs so far. And i love the sound.
I got one question for MB210 and MB212 users.
Today, I used DI out from my GK MB115, and it sounded pretty good. However, it was really difficult to unplugged mic cable, because DI output was too close to the case. If you have MB115 and used DI out, you know what I mean.
Is it same case for MB210 and MB212?

Just tried mine and you're RIGHT! Best way to get mic cable unplugged is to take the tip of your 1/4" jack and stick it in there between the mic cord and the case. Use it to push the little tab that locks the XLR in place.
Can't anything be done about the bass amp porn that tallbassboy is posting? That is just too enticing.

So...have you tried a wye cable/footswitch yet to drive both combo amps at the same time? Probably not...I would have felt the ground shake over here...I am only 63 miles due west of you.

About the XLR Balanced Output on the MB210...(sorry, forgot to address that issue).
I used the flat screwdriver blade on my Boy Scout knife to "reach in" to depress the latch on the XLR.
