GK Fusion S now available!

Super cool. Played the legacy 800 and it sounded really really good.

Something I'm confused about though, from their site:

" These high powered heads incorporate three 12ax7 tubes in the preamp, including one dedicated to the overdrive channel, making it GK’s first ever tube driven overdrive channel."

Didn't the MB fusion have tube pre's? That's not tube overdrive?

I'm guessing they outsourced the add copy and someone got it wrong. It clearly states in the MB500 Fusion manual "Tube Overdrive".

I have a Gallien Krueger MB Fusion 800. Best amp I have every owned. I have used GK amps since the eighties and have always loved them, (still own my first one) but this tube preamp with a Class D power amp is amazing. The warmth, the tone is unbelievable. When you turn it up and hook it up to a pair of 4 X 10 cabs it reminds you why you play bass.

Ex. The $1200 advertised price on the 800watt model is at least 20% higher than most other brand amps in the 700-800 watt class.

One can argue you get features (tubes) many other models dont have, but it seems to come at a cost premium.

On another note, I can't even imagine what the glorious, ungodly roar that 1200 GK watts worth of tubey overdrive must sound like.

Is there another lightweight high power amp on the market that has three 12ax7 tubes in it?
The Legacy amps seem to be priced right at everyone else's pricing.

While the MB500 and MB800 Fusion could overdrive if you pushed the Gain control, they did not have a dedicated Overdrive channel. It's been a while since I had my MB500 Fusion, but I remember it not having a whole lot of overdrive when pushed. I'm willing to bet the Overdrive channel on this new amp is tuned for more overdrive.

Not that I know of.

You may have missed where I addressed that in the post you quoted.

IMO an amp isn't necessarily worth more because has a few extra preamp tubes. It has to outperform the other amps in its class, regardless of what's inside their chassis. And these Fusions might just do that, but right now all we got is pictures, specs and prices.

This shows a two channel preamp. Note: Gain A, Gain B, Level B, and Master. The idea of the Level B is so you can crank of Channel B to get some OD, and then compensate at the back end of the channel, so the level is the same as Channel A. The simplified schematic in the manual labels the output controls Master A and Master B, so it's possible that the two channels are identical. However the setup is intended to give you a clean channel and dedicated OD channel if you want it.

With those amps, the A/B switch simply switches between two sets of identical gain and master controls. There's only one actual preamp channel.
