GK new MBP Powered Enclosures? (More info please!)

I believe that the MB series combos will have a modification available that will install a balanced XLR out to drive the MBPs post EQ/Post volume. Or you can drive them with another pre-amp, as long as it has a balanced XLR output. Bob, please correct me if I have this wrong.

It will require a pretty high level balanced drive which will be available on the revised combos. A typical DI may not provide a truely balanced signal and the level may not be high enough.

Do you know about what level would be required? I'd like to try to run one off of my Axe FX Ultra, which is capable of a quite high balanced output, but I'd like to be sure.

The MBP is designed to work with our MB combos. We do not recommend any other use. If you want to use another source you will need +10dBu true balanced and you will not have a limiter.

Man, what a waste of an opportunity to break open the market for powered cabinets :(

+10dbu balanced is pretty common in every decent bass preamp--putting limiting in the power amp stage seems like an obvious gimme to me.

Wow..this thread needs a summary!

I want the MB 2x12, but a bit confuse if I buy it in JUNE 2011 if it will have the XLR for the MBE extension cab, or after I buy it, do I have to send it over to GK to get the Mod?

THANKS

Owners of current revision MB Combos will purchase the MBP Powered Cabinet (at MAP price) directly from GK and return their current combo at the same time. We will ship a new combo along with the powered cabinet directly to you. This offer is only extended to current MB Combo owners who want to add the MB Powered Cabinet to their rig.

that is just about the coolest thing i have ever heard. I will look to GK first from now on. And every musician I meet is gonna hear about it whether they like it or not. Hear that guys? Get ready!

So you cant run a non-GK preamp through these cabs? If not, man I was really looking forward to saving some money on buying a pre, a power amp and a cab ...

I took this quote as the MBP was designed to work in conjunction with the MB combos. However, if you want to use another source with the MBP cabinet you need +10dbu true balanced output to have a strong enough signal for the MBP cabinets.

From a marketing perspective though, I wonder if GK would sell more units if you could buy a MBP powered cabinet with just an XLR input on the back with a volume knob and a limiter on/off switch. This would allow the user to use the preamp of their choice and go from the XLR output on the preamp into the MBP cabinet.

I guess if you want the volume control and limiter option, you can just spend 100 bucks more and get the entire preamp in the actual MB combo.

Not gonna lie, I've never been a big fan of GK tone... but I gotta say, after reading this, I am most definitely a fan of GK service!

Bravo, sir!

Is it still looking like mid August for the release?

I hope so.
