Go-to class D head and cab

I have been using a Genz benz 3.0 Shuttle with a 2x10 cab for years and my club gig. I have a 6.0 too. Great heads and frequently for sale used. The 3.0 fits in my gig bag pocket. 350w into 4oms
The best clean sound I've ever gotten is through my Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0. The 6.0 is a bit different, more pillowy in the mids, but no slouch by any means.

So many Class-D head options these days. You can spend $1,500-$2,000 on a top-line amp, or you can spend $500 on one that fits in your gig bag pocket. Tube preamp or SS, 500W, 700W, 800W, you name it. It's really just about your budget, your volume needs, and your tonal preference. And if you need/want features like aux in, headphone out, USB, etc. Plus all of the used options - so many choices.

I went through this process about 3 years ago when I was looking for a Class-D head. I went with a mid-tier priced 500W/4ohm amp (Blackstar) and have been very happy with it. If I were shopping today, I'd also be looking hard at Quilter, the new Seymour Duncan, Mesa and Genzler.

For cabinets: I got a RevSound cabinet about 6 months ago, and love it.

Been gigging for about 12 years now playing classic rock and country and have had a variety of heavy SS amps and cabs and now a V4B with 212 cab and a 90s peg rocketbass rb-50. Saw a country duo the other night and the bassist had a little silver class D head with red and blue lights and what looked a like a 115 cab. Sounded PHENOMENAL. Didn't get a chance to ask her what she was using but kinda wondering what that was. I’ve been saving my penny’s for new, light rocketbass 210 but given how good that setup sounded I’m thinking about going that route instead. Whats a go to class D and 115 cab setup folks are using on here?
The two heads I gig with could meet your description of silvery with red and blue lights; GK MB 500 and Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0. Both have their own personality and I adore them for what they give me - I'll sometimes use both over the course of a 3-set gig.

Don't know what to say about a 12" or 15" cab, since I also use a pair of 2x10's. One works fine for smaller gigs and also for practice at home, while both stacked on end throws all the sound I could need without PA support for my sound.

Salud!

For me, a Markbass Little Mark IV and 112 Lightbox cab. Powerful, versatile and with volume to spare.

Is there a sound you want to achieve that your existing amps don’t get? I think coming from your V4B and 212 rig (assuming you mean the SVT212AV), by most accounts you’re going from super deluxe territory into … who knows what… everyone has a favorite amp, what do you like? If you want to stay in the Ampeg tone wheelhouse, but easier to get around with than the 212 and V4B, I think the RB210 is a solid option, as would be the Venture V7 and matching 115. I’m using the V7 with a pair of SVT 112AV cabs (the modular version of your 212) and have never been happier.

I just have a Mesa D800 and TT800.

Love the TT's tone, especially with larger louder groups, but the D800 is my pick and grab head, for band practice and smaller gigs.
Oops...forgot to mention the cab I would use.

Depending on the situation.
Either a Mesa Subway 112 for beef and mid forward, or one of my Phil Jones C4s for warmth and smooth low end.

If it was silver that may have been an Aguilar TH700. Excellent amp!
However my personal choice would be a Mesa WD800 with a Mesa Subway 1-15 cab. Phenomenal set-up.

Any of the Mesa Subway heads (5-7 lbs depending on the head), 800w to 2-12's, 400w to a single 12) with a pair of Mesa single-12 cabinets (33 lbs. each, 8 ohm impedance). They are all best sellers, built like Swiss watches, and sound great with terrific warranty coverage.

The head has a nice included carry bag and the cabinets come with nice covers, all included in the MSRP.

Throw the head and your cables in the bag over your shoulder, take one cab for smaller gigs, and you are traveling as light as a lot guitar players. You will be out of the furniture moving business.

The advances made today are head-turning: A Mesa WD800 Subway head and TWO of the Subway 215 cabinets in total weighs less than my old Peavey 215BW cabinet by itself, with tone and power for days. The idea of a 5 lb. 800w bass amp the size of a cigar box is still hard to wrap my head around, but Lordamighty it works in spades.
