Godin Club

To reply to Winston - Low B sounds nice to me. I'm still developing an ear but I like it. My Ibanez is a bit more punchy but only because it has active pups. I'm learning bass at this time but feel I will probably keep the Godins as long as I'm plugging away at it. They seem quite nice to play, with no clicking noise when the string is pressed to the frets. ....I see I'm a Godin Club member - nice!

Hey Godin Club bassist. I purchased and installed a set of the GHS Black Nylon tape wound strings. They are good strings and decently balanced, but I fancy the D'Addario set a bit more. I have un-installed the GHS strings, so they are precut to fit the Godin A5. If anyone wants them, please IM me your lower 48, US address and I will send them to you. 1st come, 1st mailing. They were on the bass less than a week.

I just got my Shifter Classic 4. Love this bass. I was wanting a Nordy or a Mike Lull, something with the warmth of a classic fender but the clarity and snap of a modern boutique, when I happened to see this bass in the local music store and felt like it was almost everything I was looking for but at a price I could actually afford. Only drawback is the pickups have a hum in the "B, C and D" settings, not the A though. I'm thinking of swapping in some Nordstrand noiselss p/j pickups.

It also comes with a very swanky gig bag.

(One really neat feature of the gig bag I discovered too is that the velcro-backed neck rest in the gig bag can be easily attached to a carpeted bass amp, and works beautifully as a bass holder, alleviating the need to carry your stand to a gig!)

Thanks for posting! I've also been thinking of buying Nords for my Shifter Classic. Haven't gotten around to it, yet, but maybe this fall...

I owned a BG5 back in 98, I was Godinless until I got my A5 Ultra a couple of months ago. Came across a used SD-4 with a quilted Maple top a couple of weeks ago. Same coloration as the quilt top 4 posted by Mule. I considered swapping out the Godin pups but it screams just fine the way it is.

I never thought I would play a bass guitar that I liked better than my upright - and I still haven't - but I have found one that comes close.

A good friend has been allowing me to play his Rob Allen MB2 - which I adore - but was scared to death of damaging it. I had played a Godin A4 previously and liked it, so I decided to buy one since I got a great deal, and I was having trouble finding a MouseBass I could afford! These things have a great woody/acoustic sound and probably the punchiest piezo I've played.

This is an older model - mid '90's, I think I was told, so it doesn't have the synth output (What's a synth, anyway?). It has virtually zero wear but does have a couple of cosmetic flaws: the wood on the top around the truss rod adjustment hole is dinged, and it looks like some sort of mild solvent (or straight vodka, possibly?) ate a pin hole though the finish on the top. Otherwise this thing looks like new - and plays like butter.

The previous owner had some DR blackies (coated round-wound) which I immediately swapped out for some LaBella Tapes. Must not have been played much - no fretboard wear that I can tell. Plus, the truss-rod was so out of adjustment when I got it that it was unplayable.

My only complaint - and it is a fairly common one with these - the upper register tone adjuster just doesn't seem to do much. That said, everyone that hears it says it sounds great!

In, with 2 Godin in the stable... this quilted top SD-5, and a soon-to-be-delivered A5 fretless in tobaccoburst.
