Godin Club

I already posted this in the amazon hot deals thread:

Godin Guitars Shifter Classic 5-String Black Burst - $359.71

http://www.amazon.com/Godin-Guitars...&ie=UTF8&qid=1389228749&sr=1-2&keywords=godin

I'd be all over this if I wasn't a lefty.

Yes, that is a good deal. I haven't had / heard one of these in hand yet but they look really nice. Maybe a slow-selling model to be discounted so heavily. It's kind of a self-perpetuating problem. I have never seen one of these in a store since they were introduced. I've seen the 4-string, but the fiver, nowhere. It's difficult to sell a model that dealers won't stock.

I wonder if my local dealer could pick up one for me on special. Godin has these blow-outs every once in a while. That's how I got my BG-V. Regularly $1,400 and I bought it new for $899.

Picked this up in a pawnshop today. Couldn't pass up a bass that sounds so amazingly like a stand up.

Even more! Call it "Thumper" for obvious reasons (to a basser that is). Really rocks the foundations of my humble abode through that Ampeg B15N! Suspect it'll do much the same at my church this a.m. when I play out for the 1st time through the SVT and 4x10 cab I have there. Hopefully feedback & intonation won't be too much of an issue (still getting used to no fret lines ). Any string recommendations?

I put D'adderio tape wounds on mine and they are awesome! You want "thumpy" that's definitely the way to go! They're pretty low tension too, real smooth to play.

I have a bit of a feedback problem playing through my B-15N, but I don't have much of a problem with my GB Streamliner. If you do have a feedback problem, fiddle with the settings on the bass and you can cut it way back. For some reason mine seems to only have issues with the mid's with feedback. I turn off the tweeter in the cab, and turn down the mid on the bass and gets pretty reasonable.

My brother loaned me his Boss AD-3 one time, and it completely got rid of the feedback problem. I've been meaning to get one of them.

So you have a B15N too! Sounds pretty nice through that rig, doesn't it? No feedback issues, but I definitely need practice on the intonation. Sounded really full through the svt. I'll have to play around with the tone some to thin it out a bit and give the notes some clarity. I've got the D'Adarrio tapewounds on my ESP 5 fretless, and they do sound awesome and feel nice to play. I've read some on the posts here about bronze strings being the go to for these basses. Any experience with those? I assume you've got an A5 Ultra. Also, at the end of the service when I was jamming with our drummer's son, I lost the sound completely, wriggled the jack, got nothing. When I plugged it in and out it came back. Been playing it standing up on the strap at home, and it hasn't happened again. Might need the jack on the guitar replaced maybe? Thanks for your help, and again, for your comments that convinced me to buy this bass. I really love how it plays and sounds!

I have a 68 B15N, and it's really cool, especially with the Godin. I have an A4 ultra fretless, so I have the Lace Sensor pickup as well as the acoustic pickup and the 13 pin Synth. I usually use the combo of the two pickups, but most of the signal comes from the acoustic. I'm thinking of having it re-wired so I can turn the electric pickup completely off, but I don't really want to mess with it because it sounds so cool.

By bronze strings, do you mean round-wound? I had a used A5 that I bought from GC, and I ended up sending it back. Someone put round-wounds on it, and they dug up the finger-board. There were grooves from the strings and it really made it tough to play. I think I would stick to flat or tape wounds.

I haven't had a problem with my bass cutting out, except when the battery is going. It looks like you have a few options for Godin dealers in your area. I had to deal with Godin a couple of times, and their support staff are really top notch. You should try to send them an email. I'll bet they would have a suggestion.

Think those bronze are rounds. I'm hoping that with the ebony board wear won't be so much an issue. That's one of the reasons I put tapes on the ESP, the fretboard is rosewood & I could see wear over even just a week or two. Have to keep an eye on that. I'd really like to put tapes on the Godin, but they sound great with the rounds it came with - we'll see.

I believe that Godin ships with D'addario. These are the diameters...

Maybe a slow-selling model to be discounted so heavily. It's kind of a self-perpetuating problem. I have never seen one of these in a store since they were introduced. It's difficult to sell a model that dealers won't stock.

The problem is also marketing. The pictures Godin puts on its website are awful! They need to post high resolution, flattering pics of their product.

The ad for the Shifter Classic is poor and the pic therein is TERRIBLE!

I've played the Shifter Classic and it's a great instrument! It deserves more attention.

I've been playing an A4 Ultra as my main fretless for about a year now. I love it with tapewounds--I can manage a pretty decent upright sound for the few Stray Cats tunes I know. :D

Lately I've really been eyeballing the Shifter (3-pickup). I love the look and love the tonal variety it provides.

Requisite bad cellphone pic below. Number please? :hyper:

My A5 fretless hasn't been getting much use lately, but I'm getting the urge to plug it in again. I have a small combo doing '30s and '40s pop (Java Jive, Route 66, Dream a Little Dream of Me etc) and I have evolved from my Sting Ray 5 to my Classic '50s P and now to my '51 P RI in search of the perfect sound for the group. I'll bet the Godin will sound great.
