Solid, high gloss black finish with gold hardware is my personal favorite color combination for electric guitars and bases, followed closely by a natural wood facing with gold hardware. It's just classy to me. If only Status wasn't calling it a day...

Frankly I doubt anybody plates guitar hardware with "real" gold. Maybe it's just me...
That may be true. I see "gold anodize" thrown around, which is not a gold plating.

Now I'm wondering if any real gold plating is used, maybe for high-end instruments? I have worked with gold plating in my work and it can be a finicky process. Sometimes it comes out with a highly polished, mirror finish. Other times it is more of a matte finish, probably not desirable for bass guitar hardware. But that might be a process issue that can be controlled.

Conditional.

I put bling on this one 'cuz I thought it was an aesthetic improvement over the OEM chrome. And the strings are 24k gold (plated).

I'm not a huge fan of gold hardware. My first good guitar was a Gibson LPC with gold hardware and it was constantly turning green. After about 10 years it all wore off the TOM bridge. It looks like brass now after 33 ish years.

My Streamer has it - the only bass I have with gold hardware. Frankly wouldn't go out of my way to pick it, but I've had this one for just over 30 years now, so obviously it doesn't bother me that much..

Regards
Mark

I have always preferred gold hardware on basses with dark natural wood finishes.
Gold accents dark woods.

Now,I do have a Ibanez BTB bass with nickel chrome hardware.
And I would change out the hardware if I could get the right size gold saddles.
But I can't seem to find replacements.
I also have an NS/Stick with a black tailpiece.I'm not even going to mess with that.
