I'm looking for an 18" speaker to put in a rig I'm working on acquiring. Does anyone know of a good cab I could get with an 18" (or bigger?) speaker? Or should I just make my own?

if you have the box, ampeg 18s are about $150, not bad.

Look at PA subs. I ran a Yamaha 1x18" PA sub for a while and dug it. Currently I'm running a Peavey 1820 with an 18" and 2x10" in the same box. Bagend makes real nice ones but are a little pricey. Accugroove and Bagend both have 21" subs... but the BE one needs a processor to run it.

i played through a 300w powered floor 18 by JBL, and it was about the most boom ive ever felt in a room. all venues and coliseums included.
ive considered downgrading to a 15, trying to reduce the range of my setup, but i probably wont because id really miss all that low end

Find a used SWR Big Ben
I know the original SWR's came with an 18 BagEnd driver. Not sure if they still do after being sold to Fender.

not sure the model I bought in the late 80s but it wasn't bad to move... fit the back of my Wrangler with my 4x12" nicely.
It was as subwoofer as any I've ever heard/used!
I've seen a guy back in the 80's playing through a 30" EV. He had this bi amp setup. Can't remember what the other speakers were. But the cab was a monster

Too bad you don't live near me, I have two 18" cabinets just sitting in my living room that you could try out...
Tell me why on earth, in this day and age, would you want to play through an 18" speaker? I am really interested in your reasoning.

The quest for the fundamental of low B! Although I agree with you that for the most part todays cabs do just as well with smaller speakers.
Cabs that can go down to 30 Hz without substantial volume are pretty rare.
I use Acme Sound B2 cabinets (acmebass.com) that are tuned to 30Hz. They reproduce a B string perfectly. They are a 2x10" + 5" mid + horn three way cabinet. They are small, light and put out more real bass than any 18" I've ever played through. When I got my first one I was playing through 4x12" and 2x15" bi-amped, All in seperate cabinets and all JBL K series speakers. I sold the lot the next week and bought another B2. I now have four but usually only use two. Most gigs I could probably use just one. I'd never buy any other kind of speaker. The company also sells a nice 1x10 and a beautiful 4x10. Alec, before you waste money on an 18 come on over to my place (I'm in Scarberia) and try mine out!

which IS NOT an 18" and was never going to be... and the JBL K series aren't known as being very 'deep' drivers anyway.
If the Acme's work for you, great. I almost bought some too... but at the end of the day, MY ideal is an 18" plus a couple of 12" and NO tweeters. Many (as you may) dread the thought of using my rig.... we all have our own voices.
