Good Alternatives to Hercules Stands?

Not sure what sub forum to put this in so I started here.

Are there any guitar/bass stands that are of fairly comparable quality to the Hercules, but less money?

In particular, I need a dual stand (for 2 basses).

I had an old Hercules that I used for years and years that finally crapped out and got sticker shock when seeing what they are selling for now. Thanks!

Well, I do at home, but out on the gig I always use a hanging stand. Mine are "ultimate" stands which are virtually the same as Hercules but cheaper... not a whole lot cheaper but about $25 for a single (Amazon) or more if you get the auto headstock locker (which I don't have). But that makes two still come out closer to the $80 prices I found on line for the Hercules double stand.

I'd never use those "standard" stands on a gig. They always are coming loose, don't really fold down well, and I've had several break the weld of the support with a heavy bass and that was just in home use. So I switched to Ultimate. Even better I modded my main axe hard cases with a cutout (cases lined with styrofoam covered in fake fur) that takes the folded stand. That way each bass case has a stand, strap, cord and tool kit. For not so main axes I put one of those cheap folding floor stand in. They sort of look like a book that opens and the bottom of the bass sits in it. A bit scary if anyone is near the bass but still better in a pinch than leaning it in a corner. Got a bunch at Sam Ash for a couple bucks a piece when on sale.

Hercules has good wall mounted hangers and inserts for wall rail systems as well for less than the cost of a full stand. IMO one or two full stands is enough for any application and at that point you're looking for a different kind of system.

It appears the Quik Lok 691 was taken off the market. There appears to be a modification, the QL 791 now available. Main difference appears to be the upright was replaced by two thinner uprights. No idea how that affects or doesn't the utility.

The Hercules double stands have been the only stands to not fall over or drop a bumped guitar that I've owned.

The only thing they need are soft cloth or natural leather boots to cover the foam headstock pads.

That rubber compound did start burning my nitro finished guitars.

Still some for sale on ebay.
I'm not sure, but the older ones look more stable...if looks count, which they sometimes don't.
