My 2500 is the meanest sounding bass I have.
You really can't go wrong with any well made bass for metal.
String choice, technique, effects, and amp settings will play a bigger factor.

IMO, get an Epi Thunderbird(Goth for Metal) and spend the cash you saved on some new EMG p'ups, some distortion, and a Dunlop bass Wah!

I love this forum. I'm thinking about getting a bass to play some metal stuff too, and I was gonna make a thread, but someone beat me to it!
From what I've read and searched, I'm looking at either the Epi Thunderbird Goth or the Squier Deluxe Jazz V Active.

and he asked for an opinion, no? so theres my opinion. play a bass you're comfortable with, just steer clear of one that looks like it was built in the middle of a Saliva concert in 1999.
So there's like zero chance someone would be comfortable with a Traben then..........
If you cant see I'm just goofing around with you and your Godsmack-logo bridge, then I don't know what to tell you.
In my OPINION they are silly looking basses that play like toys. In my OPINION he should look elsewhere and avoid buying a bass that looks "metal," instead of a bass that plays really well..

Wow... I was expecting this thread to die with maybe 2 or 3 replys... cheers guys you've given me alot to think about.
To be more specific my band is just about to start recording its own material... for the past year we have been a covers band playing stuff like, metallica, maiden, sabbath, megadeth and some more old school NWOBHM bands like Saxon and Diamond Head... ive been using an Epiphone Thunderbird (I find it a little muddy but since our band only has one guitarist it really fills the sound) I also use a Highway1 Fender-P which I find is great for playing more "busy" basslines
But for recording I really dig the kind of sounds that Frank Bello and Rob Trujillo get from their basses (which funnily enough frank bello plays a jazz and Trujillo plays a bass with jazz style pickups) so thats what made me aim towards more of the "jazz bass" end of the market... But ive also been looking at the Warwick Vampire Dark Lord.... damn so many choices!
