Good groove bassist?

Another one I want to add to the list. Chris Maresh, who plays with Eric Johnson. Now that guy can groove. With Eric, there are moments where he's given free reign and others where Eric wants something specific from his basslines. I can only imagine how demanding it must be to play bass for one of the finest guitarists in the world, but Chris Maresh grooves with aplomb.

he's a great all around musician, and damn great guitarist... but his bass lines aren't impressing me much as of late.. at least not in the studio stuff I've heard from him lately.

Groove is a specific type of sound involving great syncopation and the use of chromatic and ornamental fills and notes that not all bassists can do well.. myself included in this statement.

Haven't seen Jerry Jemmott mentioned in this thread, so I'll claim a place for him alongside Chuck Rainey. These two are the groovemeisters for me, along with Paul Jackson. Also, +anything for Me'shell... sheesh.

What about Oteil Burbridge? I've just seen Allman Brothers at the Beacon Theatre (dvd) and the man are into some serious grooves.. JPJ is also a favourite and I think he really stands out on Led Zeppelin II.

Well, who is he?...
It just sounds really good, i doubt he has got many different over the years but man,the lines in "sir duke" "sign sealed..." " if you really love me" and so on, its so warm and snatchy sound.
anybody knows what the"guy" has as setup? (guess it is a fender jazz though)

jamerson played signed sealed and delivered. the guy who did sir duke is nathan watts. watts is still playing with him to this day.

VERDINE WHITE, JAMES JAMERSON, MESHELL AND PINO ARE ALL DOPE. PATITUCCI Is more of a groove player than he is given credit for. When he's not taking an incredible solo, he is working, layin down pocket.
Listen to the New LETTUCE record, "RAGE". I like to play the bass line, ya dig?
