Schecter uses rosewood palThe 22 frets isn't that big a deal to me, sure 24 is optimal but mtd only uses 21 on the high end customs, so I'll take why I can get.
TIL: my bass has a rosewood board.
In the 3k range, you have some incredible options. If you want silky tone with endless sustain and a low B that rings like a bell, why not go for a modulus q6? They can be had used in your price range. Incredible feel/fit/finish/playability and once you have it set up to your liking, you practically never have to adjust it again.
Oh and the phenolic fingerboard give you a very similar tone to ebony. Awww... But neck through is kinda impossible unless you can find a tbx which will cost you and arm and a leg as well as a bunch of other appendages if you can even find one. So... Eh, might be a deal breaker.

Not a Warwick guy. They make great instruments, but I don't like the "chunky" feel they tend to have.
Also modulas is a brand I've looked a lot into, I like what I've seen, but not what I've heard. They sound reall Clancy and kind of.... Like cold. Could have been the players settings though
I feel like it's the players in large part. Also it depends how you have them set up. And how you eq them. My moddys do not clank unless I want them to. However, the thing about graphite is that it let's you hear every little subtlety of your playing, especially your imperfections. So I realized when I got my first modulus (vj4) that it just makes me have to play better, and cleaner. Once I got comfortable on it, I've found no jazz bass that can rival it's sound and clarity.
But yes, if you have a bit of slop in your technique or you are really heavy handed, you may get some clank unless you raise the action a bit. That would likely solve the issue though.

I'm sure that has more to do with it than the construction. I'll look into the new stuff they put out.
Yep. I mentioned that earlier. Fortunately, they are not that hard to find on the used market. Which also means much less expensive than any comparable bass brand new.
And I see that you have a new Signature model now, available from Kiesel/Carvin. It definitely looks cool! I posted a question for you on that over in your thread.
And I remembered earlier, for the OP, an even older Peavey model would be the TL-Six. A 6-string with double P pickups. And an ebony fretboard. But, I *think* they were 34" scale and you (the OP) specifically said you want extended scale (you want 35", IIRC). Made in America Peavey basses are awesome quality. And when you can find a TL-Six (if you decided you didn't mind 34"), they are usually well under $1000.

ThanksSo I am thinking about getting a carvin bass, I had the money saved up and I liked what I've seen, heard, read about them. But then, Blam! Life happens, my car took a steaming dump on me...So I had to spend almost ALL my money in car parts. So now I'm thinking, is this an omen? I doubt it, and I don't think I'll be able to find anything if that level quality at a price that is as reasonable. I have only a few requirements.
I am willing to spend a bit more if I am going to get more out of it, is say like $3,500 Max. Got any suggestions, or should I continue as planed with the carvin? Thanks in advance tb, love you guys

The new moddys are pretty dang expensive. If you want better value, definitely go used. The beauty is you don't need to worry about the necks being ok like you need to do with all wood neck basses. They are pretty much rock solid.
I own a Carvin XB76 and a Musicman Bongo6. Both a excellent basses. There is not to me any huge difference between the through neck and bolt on. A couple of things to consider with Carvin XB. The XB is 35 1/4 scale and has a tappered B string. Other than Carvin strings, you are more limited on strings to buy. Their strings are good and well priced (unless you live in Canada $40 shipping?) The spacing on the XB is 16.5mm which I find fine but some people find it a bit tight for slapping. Also the resell for a Carvin 6 string will not be high. Now with that said. If you want a great custom bass at a good price Carvin is a great deal. Consider their 34" scale basses also. My Bongo (34") has a tighter string tension than my Carvin. You can build a cheap starter bass if you intend to move up latter or pile on the options (watch the price go up) If you build your dream bass for life. Their new Vanquish basses look sweet. I've thought about picking up one of these, but I'm a quality whore. So I think I'll hold out, it's gonna be tough
The Brices are good if you are not sure what you want to do and don't want to drop a lot of coin to find out.. or if you know what you want and just want an inexpensive decently made bass.. but if you are sure of what you want and you know your tastes the Brice may not be for you. They are not terrible.. I would say they are good for inexpensive basses.
I have a 5 string fretless version of this bass that I got in a trade and if I had the money to spend I would have jumped on this a while ago. My U.S. Cirrus 5 fretless is really nice...

You get alot of bang for the buck but you also get a top notch bass with Stambaugh.
Yes, I like a tight spacing so it's a win for me. What is a tapered B string? The fodera sets have an optional tapered B option, what's it mean? I like fodera strings a lot from my little experience with them so it's not a problem.
Foderas I think will work. I think they also have the length. The bridge saddle spacing for my B string is narrow. The tappered B string has less windings over the bridge saddle. A big B string (without the winding) does not sit snug in the saddle. My bass is about 6 years old so they may have changed this or not.
