Hmm, I didn’t know about this whole ‘different intros’ controversy. Interesting
I’m gonna go with that I like the visuals better in the season 1 intro. I especially like how Herman is so psyched after giving Lily a little peck on the cheek before heading off to work. Also, Grandpa not being in totally control of himself and trying to bite her hand, lol. Meanwhile, regarding the later seasons intro, back when I was a kid, I never got what was going on with Eddie walking out the door with an oversized baseball bat…
But music-wise, I like that surf music-style guitar intro of the later seasons. Fits in with the whole California hot rod vibe they got going with the Munstermobile* and all that, plus that’s a lick I always mess with on guitar

Love this tune. The French horn melody is one of my fave noodles for trying out a new bass in a music shop. Only ever once been called out on it by another bass loving Trekkie. Or is that Trek loving bass player?

Wait, back in the early 90's, in the late night / early morning student drinking TV slot, we used to have a Dutch, or perhaps German detective show called "Schimanski" that was comically badly dubbed into English - is this the same show? (I don't remember the theme tune).
I guess the inverse was the German dubbed version of MacGyver, which had the most hilariously dreadful reimagining of the original American soundtrack :
Yes Schimanski was one of the detectives in the Tatort universe. Tatort started in the 70's I believe and moved from one big city and even included Austria and German speaking Swiss and even Italian Tyrol (which also speak German). I had been following the new seasons in MhZ networks, different leads per ciity country. I think there was also a GDR counterpart before unification Polizeiruf 110. Hosrt Schimanski was in 80's I believe and the local setting was Duisburg. This time around the other famous one is Borowski who I really like. There is a breakdown in Wikipedia. All quirky and memorable characters. In this century, it has definitely become more inclusive to represent the changing demographics in Germany and Austria.
There is also a French counterpart called "Meutre a.." although it's a different locale per Episode. I rarely follow American TV shows and English language shows. I lived abroad when I was in my twenties and acquired some language skills and the best way to keep up is watch foreign language shows. I always need the subs but when I get lucky, I can look away and not miss much.
Music - wise. The Tatort title track remained the same since 1970 except for the key. The newer episodes are played a half-step lower (I maybe wrong on that but it is definite lower). That's how I am nerdy about this. I saw the first who in 1989 and I was staying with friends in Mainz.
