As far as bass lines go, surely it's hard to beat Barney Miller theme. Great line, great tone, great time.
All these other ones might have good bits, but as an intro. ..... none better imo

I swear those 1970s TV themes are a golden age of 20th century musicianship.
Both the Hollywood Quincy Jones /Wrecking Crew stuff
and the BBC / KPM stuff across the pond

It got dismissed a commercial muzak at the time
But real composers and real musicians , all at the top of their game.

Since Barney Miller and Sanford and Son was already represented
I'll saythat Bob Newhart theme is more of a jam than it has any right to be
