Got SRX?

Before tossing the part, try mothers chrome polish, but otherwise $53 is the cheapest I found:

(b-200 bridge)

Hope that helps...
A.C.

I also had a horribly corroded and discolored chrome B200 bridge from my recent acquisition. I tried some early polishing while it was still mounted on the bass and it seemed to be a goner. Went looking for a new bridge.

The Drumsetc.com site was the cheapest I had found as well.

But, figuring I was going to be taking it off anyway, I pulled the bridge and went to town on it just for curiosities sake . This time, using some Noxon 7 metal polish and a Dremel with a buffing pad (or three). It worked after a couple of applications The pitting is still there, but the discoloration and funk is gone to the point where I'll live with it rather than replace now.

BTW, the Noxon 7 I got was from a local Orchard Supply Hardware. The guy at Guitar Fetish recommended it for some parts I bought a while back that had a weird haze to them.

I just bought a used SRX700. So far I love how it plays, but am not in love with the pickup sound possibilities. I am first going to try putting flats instead of rounds on it. Carol Kaye recommended this one and that is why I got it.
What replacement pickups would people recommend for this one?

Congatulations on your purchase. Personally I wouldn't change the pick ups, to me that's what gives the SRX it's sound. I know some people here have lowered the pick ups so there not quite as hot with good results. Try the flats and experiment with the eq on the bass, small movements can make a big difference. IMO I can dial in quite a few different tones with my SRX. Be Patient and get to know her. And if your still not happy with the tone I'm sure someone else can chime in with pick up suggestions.

And by the way... No Pics. No Bass. ;)

Carol Kaye got me into the SRX's too. Do not change the pups, the 700 has alnico magnets which is now only featured on the signature models. Even the 690, which Carol was wrongfully informed was the same as her 700, has ceramic magnet pickups.
Experiment with string changes, pup height, and your technique...and as already said, take some time to get familiar with that 2 band EQ. If you just don't like it after all of that, but like the feel, get a 690, and do your changing on it. I would probably checkout Bartolini's first, as a replacment. Again, don't do it to the 700, I think those are special, IMO.

Thanks for the thoughtful replies. I put some TI Jazz Flats on it last night and I like the sound much better now. There is still a bit of nasal sound, but far less than with rounds. The lows are seriously thumping though. I also like how the neck feels, it's very nice. Here is a link to the pictures from the for sale ad here on TB. It is in like new condition.

That's a seriously good deal, and one of the best looking 700's I've ever seen. Glad you are liking it better with the TI's, they are expensive initially, but you should be set for about 8 years or so now:)
Have you tried a mute like some foam, or felt like CK? You may be hearing some overtones, and that should cut them out. Good luck and congratulations on grabbing a great bass!

I will try a foam mute as you suggest. Maybe that is what I am hearing. I am definitely getting more used to the bass. Man the low end is gut shaking, which I really like. The treble can get downright ice pick in your ear trebly, which I don't. Really surprised Carol Kaye would like this bass as it seems to be optimized for hard rock players.

There are some videos of CK playing that bass on bassplayertv. If you haven't seen them, they can give you a good idea of how it can sound. She plays all over the neck in those videos. That ice pick high may be the brand new TI's too. Give em a few days.

What's the average weight on these SRXs? I ordered an SRX355 from Musician's Friend. It arrived with a chipped headstock so they're going to send a new one to me. But the one that came is really heavy, much heavier than my Fender Jazz and Lakland 55-02. I'm reconsidering my purchase now based on that. Anyone have a lightweight 5 string SRX?

SRX 700 on left.

My SRX505 is about the lightest bass I own. Haven't actually weighed it but I'm almost sure it's under 9 lbs. When I pick up the case, I sometimes think there is no bass in it! :D I may have just gotten lucky, but it should be light with a basswood body uner a maple cap.

Mines a 4 string , but it weighs about 9 lbs. give or take an ounce or 2.

My 590 weighs 8.5 lbs, IIRC. It's a 4 string and is basswood with the flame maple top.

Thanks Whatitstrue, I plan on getting some DR blacks to spice up the the looks and the sound of the SRX, pics will follow..........peace

Good choice, I've been running Black Beauties on my SRX for a while now. IMO, Not only do they sound great but they last forever and they look cool too. Plus there the only strings I've found that I can run real low comfortably on my SRX.

Let us know what you think of them.
