Double Bass Great Female Double Bassists

I have vote for Joëlle again - she spent a lot of time here in the Bay Area teaching at Mills and I was lucky enough to spend a good bit of time with her.
We even have quartet album:

She has a beautiful sound and is just a great bass player and musician. We are collaborating on a few projects this year (including one at the Stone in March), it is great to work with her.

Great female bassist: Linda Oh.

Great writer, great player. Chops, tone, rhythm. The whole package. She just released her first CD which has been getting rave reviews in Downbeat, Jazz Times and everywhere else I've seen.

I think being able to sing while playing is a great skill, but that doesn't make you a great bass player. Esperanza's playing just doesn't interest me. Her solos demonstrate that she is comfortable on the instrument, but I don't hear anything that makes me freak out (like when I listen to, say, Scott LaFaro). Even the choices of tunes she has her group play sometimes has me wondering what exactly she hears/finds appealing in them.

Absolutely no offense meant; au contraire, she is a good player and well loved by many. I just can't see myself choosing to listen to one of her records over ...a buncha other stuff.

Yeah, it isn't going to make me take off the Johnny Dyani/Dollar Brand duo I have on now! I still think it is great that a double bassist got that huge. She is also still working as a bassist with Lovano and McCoy Tiner - and she sounds great in those situations as well.
If she keeps going like this she will be so incredible in 10 years or so.

Yeah, went to Yoshi's and caught the McCoy Tyner band. 10 years, whatever.......what matters is right now, the music being played in the moment. In 10 years, a lot of things will happen.

Spalding had an annoying habit of practicing her right hand (nails extended) pizz patterns on the side of her bass during three or four of Mcoy's solo piano intros. "Ticity tacity ticity tac", ect. loud and clear through the house.

She spent more time preparing for her solos than supporting the music.

McCoy and Fransisco Mela played beautifully together.

That has become a hobby around here.....say something, no response, delete that and re-post. Say something lame, wait for a response from the "victim(s)" with no QUOTE.... EDIT or DELETE.
I got a cool collection of this stuff I've saved over the last year or so.

EDIT: Oops. I see another one disappeared from yet another Troll. Wow, cool stuff. Jake almost had something there. Oh, well...another time.
