I have always liked AKG414s for lots of recording applications, I think they’re kind of a Swiss Army knife of LDC mics. A few people on this thread have posted that the C12 has the same capsule, and i don’t think that’s true. The very early 414s had the C12 capsule, it was known as the ‘brass’ capsule and highly thought of. All the newer generation 414s (including mine which are B-ULs, around 25 years old) use a different capsule. 414s old enough to have that ‘brass’ capsule were selling for $3000 or more the last time I checked which was at least 10 years ago.
Once you get into that level of microphone, there are so many other really important factors, like the room (most important) and the preamp, and of course placement. If you have a good player on a good instrument in a good room, any decent pro-level recording mic will sound good. I think new 414s are a good deal, they’re probably around $1000. They’re very versatile.
