Greg Curbow passed away

I just didn't believe the thread title when i read it... he'll be missed by all. My best wishes and sympathy to all of the Curbow friends and family.

One thing is for certain, his spirit will not only be survived by the love and rememberance of his friends and family, but also by dozens of incredible instruments and the heart and soul poured into them by the musicians who use them to express thier emotions. We should all be so lucky as to leave a legacy that richly meaningful behind. RIP Mr. Curbow :(

Greg finally lost the long battle with a brain tumor.

The first time he went for treatment, he was out gigging the same night, and that sums up his atitude to the whole thing.

We are continuing all his plans including the lutherie school at Curbow String Instruments.

I lift my prayers to the Lord to keep Greg's spirit and give his family strength. Very sad, and kinda eerie that I have been listening to Adam Nitti's tone and wondering if I should look into a Curbow. Just 2 days ago i was going to email Adam to ask which tracks he had used his Curbow on. I hate news like this ... :bawl: :(

I agree with all the previous posts about Greg being willing to talk with you. On two occasions back in 2002, I called the shop to ask about Cort Curbow fretlesses that he had on eBay, and talked at length with Greg about the Cort versions.

He invited me to stop by the Curbow shop to visit, which I never did.

Rest in peace, Greg. Our prayers are with your family, friends, and the guys in the Curbow shop.

It may not be very comforting to his family now, but they will see he died having made an impact in this world. His basses and designs were respected custom and production instruments.

Many of us are more or less his age and haven't made near the impact he did in our chosen fields.

I E-mailed him a while ago to tell him how much I loved his instruments. Someone else replied and told me that he was gravely ill and could not answer.

I've played on one of his basses, great crafstmanship and quality, this ruins my chance of ever getting a custom one.
