Indeed it is - probably late 80's or early 90's. Had a similar 4 stringer about 15 (that long?!) years ago, and it was decent, but I definitely preferred the tone of my friend's early 90's MIM Jazz I was borrowing around the same time. I think you could probably do a little better for the money - my recollection is that the b strings weren't that great on the older Fender 5's.

That's what I thought. I couldn't find any used prices anywhere else but I think those are close to three grand new.

This is a pretty damn good price. It's not the SB14, which are going for that used now. The Ray34 seems to go higher...

This seems like a decent place to ask: Does GC no longer negotiate on used items less than 90 days in the store?

I called a shop to inquire about a pedal and try to wheedle a few more bucks off and was told flat out that they refuse to negotiate price and was promptly hung up on. That seemed odd to me.

I have been told that too. I went in to a store to negotiate on a used bass a few months ago and ended up in a long discussion with the guys there over the same thing. New sales policy is essentially they might throw in a new strap or picks but that is it. Just another result of the business climate, you gotta protect whatever margins you can get, especially when you are deeply in debt.

Believe what you will, the salesperson decided the conversation was over and moved on greener pastures. I'd be angry, but I wasn't going to give them their listed price when when it was only 25% less than MSRP.

I'm more depressed that it ruined fantasy window-shopping deals with through their used website.
