Woah. That is unusual. There was a related guitar in the local Craigslist a while back... Ovation Preacher, mid-late 70's. I woulda'-coulda'-shoulda'... and all that.

What makes UK II unique is the fact that the body contains NO wood whatsoever. Aluminium frame surrounded by foam. Charles Kaman - may he RIP - most certainly had some interesting concepts. Since I already own several "conventional" electrics, this was a welcomed addition. I like it a lot.

I still miss it.

I hear you loud and clear.

I own an '84 Custom Balladeer with the "old" type electronics which is undergoing major surgery right now since it's literally bent out of shape and my luthier is trying to perform a miracle. Anyone in their right mind would just ditch it an move on - especially for the fact that I own a couple of pretty serious "conventional" acoustics - but when you need *that* sound, there's no substitute for an Ovation.

Most of late Mr. Kaman's designs are an acquired taste IMO. All of them are quirky and not all are brilliant but those that are - once again, IMO - count as truly outstanding. If my hands were in better shape I would most definitely own a Magnum which is one of the most over-engineered and impressive sounding bass guitars ever in my book.

Any other guitar players here been eyeing the Invalid Link Removed? Or, better yet, got one you can tell us about?

I've been jonesing for the Invalid Link Removed, since I don't get enough call for guitar to even consider the Twin. My 2 biggest guitar amps are the Fender Deluxe DSP 90 and the Fender Cyber-Deluxe so, yeah, I'm a Deluxe kinda guy.

Now they've gone and added the Invalid Link Removed! And, oh, MAN!! The GAS is really strong with this one. Maybe 'cause when I was in high school, and felt extremely lucky to have a Silvertone Twin Twelve 1484 (matching my lead guitarist's), I was a big fan of a local band with 3 Super Reverbs (lead, rhythm & keys) sporting blue power lights! (Plus they had a matching Bassman!) Looked and sounded so fine!

Anyone? ... Anyone? ... Buehler? ... Buehler?

I was actually looking for a used Super Reverb tube amp when I saw these were coming out. I have all tube guitar amps, but I am definitely buying this one, assuming it lives up to it's reputation. I've heard nothing but great reviews on the Tone Master amps. The difference between 65 lbs for the tube super and 36 lbs for the tone master is enough to outweigh any tiny differences in tone, for me anyway.

Yeah, Ifmn, weight is definitely a consideration at my age, and that's another reason the Tone Masters caught my eye. My Fender Rumble 500 210 combo is just a half pound heavier than the TM Super, so I know I can handle that!

Please let us know here how it works out for you!?

Will do. I’m waiting to hear from my salesman when they will be available.

Theead bump with a Bucket-list guitar that came my way recently. 2004 Turner Model One C-LB. Maple/purpleheart neck, ebony and rosewood laminates on the headstock. Mahogany body core halves. Full gloss finish. It was basically unplayed. (until this week!)

Fully-pully electronics... rotary coil-tapped humbucker, reference piezo bridge saddles, blending capability to 100% hard pan, and switchable semi-parametric equalizer with boost/cut.

I'm still trying to figure out where the dadgum parking brake is.

Here I was thinking it was a 6 string bass, then I looked at the thread title! :D nice looking instrument. Is it a pure electric but designed to look like an acoustic with pickup added or can it be used as an acoustic too? Context is everything, it looks like a small instrument, how does it compare with a LP of which there is a passing resemblance?

The Model One was actually developed with the intent of incorporating the best parts of a Les Paul and a Strat into one do-it-all guitar. I am still getting a feel for its original design. I'm not guitar player enough to ever put this thing through the paces it ought to be. I find it hard to believe that there's a tone you couldn't dial-up. The semi-parametric equalizer takes the longest time to make use of. Best to just leave it off until you've figured out the volume/tone/piezo/magnetic controls, then start twiddling and tweaking that.

The scale is 24.75", and the neck profile is Les Paul-ish but slender, not the 50's Standard. Feels a lot like my 2010 LP Special.

There's a reason why the Model One resembles an acoustic... Rick patterned it after an old parlor guitar.

Beware, Strat Attack...!!!

A funny thing happened. I had this MIJ Squier Strat and loaned it out to a guitar-playing buddy. Years passed. I nearly forgot about it. He gave it back last month... and I totally began to understand the Stratocaster in a way that I had not before.

This crazy tremolo bridge was giving me fits, even with full spring tension, I just couldn't love it. It works great, if you're coordinated enough to use the dadgum thing. I ain't. The fine-tuners are handy though.

So I got to thinkin'... y'know... a hardtail Strat... now that'd be okay. Well, one came along, (in dire need of setup, I might add) and now a Robert Cray Signature Strat lives here.

And the cool little scribble up here...

If you read up, it has elements of several of his favorite Strats from '59 forward, a nice neck carve, and Custom Shop pickups.

Jeannie may, or may not be looking for the Smokin' Gun or the wire-cutters... so I need to go take care of something right quick. :help:
