Guitarist take over...

Hey guys
Well I've been jamming with a band for a while and after kicking a guy holding us back we really took off and already are getting our setlist prepared for a show only some weeks after. Anyway since then our rhythm guitarist has really bloomed he's progressing extremely fast and so much so our previous lead is getting jealous. Now they both trade off lead and rhythm and still the rhythm guitarist is showing more worth.

Anyway our lead wants more responsibility I think. He's good and taught himself but its not much to our rhythms extended knowledge of theory and scales. The lead wants to be the singer for us though he isn't good and since we denied him that he wants to take drums over in a couple songs. I know I'm next haha

He's spent like 500 bux on a new drum kit.
30 bux on a single guitar pedal

He's taking his extra Monet and not improving his equipment like the rest of us. Hes getting stubborn wants to write lyrics for everything. Which I have no problem with but he suns other lyrics. My own lol
Everyone is commuting to their instrument but he doesn't seem to think he needs to improve. He's never gotten along with our singers. I think he wants all the spotlight

We kicked our old rhythm guitarist because he pulled a him or me deal and we couldn't afford to lose him then. But now that rhythm is here and he's really becoming a member of the band I feel inclined that the next time he pulls it I'd if he does I'd let him go.

Further complicates that me and him and the previous rhythm were founding fathers.

Sry so damn long haha but thats most of it me and the drummer are planning to talk to him about his intrusion on everyone's positions and hopefully he takes it like a grown up. He's talented but now were not as desperate as we were before. I don't want to see him leave but I have to so wats best for the band. Just ask the other 4 people kicked. Haha any suggestion on how to deal with out hurting his ego or making him leave?

Would you mind actually writing this in English? I am having a very hard time understanding exactly what you mean or are trying to say. It is hard to give you any insight or input because of the way you have written your post.

Writing and communication is becoming a lost art.

A large part of the issues many people have posted here on this forum are directly related to the inability to communicate clearly, directly, succinctly and with the proper tone and intention in their individual and band situations.

If you can actually understand what this young man (I'm assuming based on the style of the post) is actually saying then I'm impressed. My guess is that the lead guitarist in his band may not actually understand what they are telling or showing him as they probably cannot communicate it properly.

Music is a universal language. While it has many styles and genres, when you place them on paper they are communicated correctly and everyone can understand them. Being in a band doesn't have a universal language. So they way you communicate becomes very important to your bands success and how well you get along.

I was thinking the same thing. Apparently he's upset with someone for wanting to rotate roles that may or may not have been kicked out of the band?

Music is a meritocracy - not an entitlement system. In a band, you gain personal (and political) clout in direct proportion to the degree of musical value you bring to the table - nothing more, nothing less.

If this guy isn't keeping up sufficiently, and/or if his issues begin to create more of a liability than he is worth, then he automatically becomes expendable. It's that simple.

So make your choices accordingly...

A) The OP may be from another country; English may not be his primary language
B) It looks like the OP even has a typo in his username ("r" instead of "e") so I don't think proofreading is a priority for him anyway.

I would like to offer advice myself but I am a little confused by the lack of focus/clarity of the rambling post. What I can tell is that this lead guitarist seems to have an ego problem and a jealousy issue. From experience, I've learned that people with issues like that cannot be appeased by diplomacy; you can be a perfect gentleman and they will still find a reason to get butt-hurt and overdramatic. It's in their nature. All you can do is be as reasonable as possible without going over-the-top with trying to soften the blow (because it's pointless to) ... i.e., just don't be a bastard about it, that's all.

A few things tell me he's 'merican:

1. The interjection of a ton of text message style comments "haha" for example.
2. "me and him" - this is not anything taught in other countries, nor if you are trying to learn the language would you make this type of statement. This tends to be directly home grown.
3. The typo in the name - not from other country, but more from lack of using the free education provided by us here.

I can't see the rest of his post while I'm typing this, but there are clear grammatical errors that tend to be specifically NOT made by others learning the language because in French and Spanish these types of phrases are not used so you would not use them in English.

My two cents, but yes, its sort of rambling and not clear.

Couple of points here...

1) To the OP, in regards to what sounds like a guy floundering to keep his job, your lead player is scrambling to remain viable but it doesn't sound like he's doing a good job at keeping up with the other members of the band as they are progressing with their playing and composition. Is that the basic point? If that's the case maybe it's time for him to find another band if he can't be brought in line so to speak.

2) As for the grammar and context debate, I had the same initial reaction as TRichardsbass. "Huh?"

The sad truth is that most members of foreign countries have a better grasp of the American English language than Americans do. The reason? Because we let it slide, and we have become lazy and accept mediocrity because it's the politically correct thing to do. I hate "politically correct" thinking, because it usually means ignoring the truth in an attempt to make everyone happy. "It's okay. We don't want to hurt little Timmy's feelings by telling him he's wrong. Think of his self esteem."

How does this apply to the OP? Without knowing more about the OP it's hard to say. As TRichardsbass has pointed out the ability to communicate is a life skill that is VERY important, whether we're talking music, or getting a job, or maintaining a relationship of any kind.

There's my dos centavos. Take them how you will.
