Hall and…Fripp?

I bought a Yamaha BB404 from the keyboard player who was asking the questions in the first vid, way back in like 2014. He’d told me when we met he was in the band for that show. Still working with Daryl it appears.

Mister Fripp has been having a ball lately taking the stuffing out of his reputation. Those videos of him and his wife doing ACDC and Sabbath tunes are hilarious.

Fripp’s always had a sense of humor, it’s just under the radar/skewered/dry/British, whatever.

I don't know, they look like they're having fun...

Those vids make me laugh. Toyah gets Fripp to color his hair and put mousse in it and then play punk rock. It's even funnier because he looks about as happy as a cat in a Halloween costume. There's at least one where he even plays in standard tuning.

Toyah is a rare example of a woman who looks better now than she did in her prime. She's the punk-ish chick in the 1979 film Quadraphenia .

I stopped watching those Toyah & Fripp videos. Not because Toyah spends all her time shaking her assets. Not because Toyah seems to be mercilessly mocking her stiff upper lip hubby. (Although he seems to enjoy it. Maybe this is what passes for S&M in England?!). But because of her singing. It is just too show tune/music hall for me. The way she elongates the phrases and over enunciates just seems to suck the life out of all the great covers they choose. She's like the opposite of rock n roll.

As far as Daryl Hall is concerned, he is/was a great singer and songwriter but all this recent legal stuff seems like a royalty renegotiation. Oates was always undervalued but I think he contributed much more as an arranger, writer, singer and guitar player than he ever got credit for. I saw them fairly recently and he and Hall really complemented each other.

I agree 100%. I like King Crimson and I like Toya's body, but I'm not into the total package.

As for Hall & Oates, why does it have to be like this?

She’s an amazing talent on her own. The daughter(one of triplets)of reknown jazz bassist Charlie Haden, she plays violin in addition to her vocals, was in a 90’s band, That Dog, and has done countless sessions for a vast number of artists.
She went down this particular path at the urging of Mike Watt, who for some reason challenged her to cover the entirety of The Who’s album, The Who Sell Out. Recorded on an 8-track cassette(!) and released in the mid-2000’s, it was a left-field hit on alternative radio, the rough edges adding a certain charm. She even organized an ensemble to perform it live.
She moved on to digital recording, tackling an insane variety of material, including other KC titles. I’ve seen her singing live with jazz guitarist Bill Frisell, and she recorded an album with former Stooges guitarist James Williamson, among other activities…

Here's a weird tidbit: Robert Fripp originally intended for his solo album Exposure, Darryl Hall's Sacred Songs, and Peter Gabriel's second solo album (the one that includes "DIY" and "On The Air" which Fripp also produced) to be considered a set or a series.
