Hanging basses on drywall?

Do yourself and your basses a favor….buy a piece of nice pine (or whatever) 1X6X however long you need to hang however many basses you have (I figured 18” between basses).

I seriously considered that. But, since the studs are aluminum, which I understand for interior walls is about the thickness of a coke can (read the earlier parts of this thread), I'm not at all convinced that using a backboard like that would be better. Then, I would have 3 hangers acting as levers on that board, attempting to pull much skinnier screws out that are only threaded into drywall and very thin metal.

Stud solver anchors. I swear by them. They come in different weight ratings and have never had one fail. Get the ones made of metal. You can find them at any hardware store.

Gypsum is brittle. All the strength in drywall comes from the paper face. Two layers of thick construction paper are holding your basses up. Its holding now but every time you take them down to play and hang them back up, you weaken the hold the anchors have. Lots of people swearing it works fine for years but i highly unrecommend that. looks cool though!

I actually think (just think, mind you) that these are like the E-Z Ancor you posted, only better. The only difference between the two is the SnapSkrus have the part that is behind the drywal that pops open to help hold them in. That seems to me to be more of an advantage than the fact that the E-Z Ancor base is metal versus plastic. I'm not worried that any of mine are going to pull out because that plastic breaks!

Metron, I hear you, but, if you read the info on the Togglers, you'll see that they do specifically address the issue you're talking about with just being a construction paper sandwich.

My plan is to be moved into a bigger, nicer house (with real wood wall studs) long before these anchors weaken enough to drop a bass.
